“Okay. If you don’t mind,” Bexley said, looking over at Nora.

“I was instructed that it wasn’t optional for me,” Nora said. “I’ve been spending too much time trying to make the nursery perfect.”

“By the time it’s perfect, they’ll be too old to use it, Nora,” Alice joked.

“They’re my children. I want everything to be perfect,” Nora argued.

Alice just smiled at her wife with pride.

They spent the rest of the night watching an old movie with Nora’s delightful grandma. Alice held on to Tor for a while. Then, Nora took him. Bexley had Julia for a bit until she started crying. When the twins were ready for bed, Nora and Alice took them to the nursery, and Nora’s grandma went to her own room for the night. A few minutes later, Alice returned to say goodnight to Bexley.

“I’m really happy you’re here, Bex,” Alice told her.

“Me too,” Bexley replied.

“So, I’m exhausted, but I do want to talk to you about Holly and what’s going on there. Tomorrow?”

“I guess. I don’t have an update for you, though. She’s there. I’m here. We’re figuring things out.”

“What does that mean?”

“We’re going to see if we still want to try when I get back,” Bexley said, shrugging. Then, she stood up. “It’s not exactly romance-novel material, I know, but it was the best I could do given the circumstances.” She ran her hands over her tired face. “Hey, how’s Alex?”

“Alex?” Alice asked, smiling at Bexley. “Why are you asking about Alex?”

“Honestly, I don’t know. I’m exhausted.” Bexley sighed. “I’m going to get some sleep if that’s okay.”

“She’s fine, by the way.”

“Who?”

“Alex, the woman you just asked about,” Alice replied, chuckling. “She’s good.”

“Good,” Bexley said. “I just haven’t seen her since I was here last time, and you usually talk about her, but you haven’t yet.”

“Right,” Alice replied.

“Anyway, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Good night, Bex.”

“Night, Your Majesty.” Bexley winked at her.

CHAPTER 7

“I’m sorry; you want me there to do physical labor now?” Alex asked.

“Not just physical labor,” Alice replied. “But you could help.”

“You do realize I’m a Princess,” Alex smirked at herself, knowing Alice couldn’t see it through the phone.

“Bex could use some help, and you could have an excuse to help her, which means you could have time with her to see if there’s something there for you two.”

“You are meddling more than usual. What’s going on, Alice?” Alex asked as she stared at her computer.

“Nothing’s going on. I just know you like her.”
