“Does she take requests?” Amelia teased.

“She does, but you’ll have to make your demands with me,” he crossed the kitchen to kiss her. “I dismissed the staff for the next couple of days.”

She pursed her lips, trying hard to hide her grin. “Oh? Why did you do that?”

“I thought it would give us more privacy. You know, for your protection.”

She nodded dramatically. “Sure. Of course. It only makes sense to send away loyal staff when it’s just the two of us here. They could be spies.”

“You never know,” he shrugged. “Can’t be too careful.” He took a step closer to her and leaned down to kiss her. “Don’t worry about the kitchen. I can cook just fine.”

“Mmm,” she moaned as he began to nibble along her neck. “I did come to the kitchen because I’m hungry.”

“I know what you want,” he replied, lifting her off the floor and placing her on the counter. He stepped between her legs and, before long, they were satisfying a different kind of hunger.

Wilder had found his happy place.

Not the Alps.

His mate’s arms.

One of theadvantages of being a wolf in a castle was the echo. Even when Amelia was far from him, he could hear her moving around. She had a fascination with the library, and he could barely get her to leave it.

They’d already made love in more than one corner of the space.

“When I was in college, I studied librarian sciences.”

“There’s a science for that?”

“Of course! It’sbooks. There is literally nothing more important in the world.”

He wiggled his brows at her. “I could think of a few things.”

She giggled. “Don’t tell me you’re already ready to go again? This shifter stamina is no joke.”

Wilder sat on one of the leather couches and sprawled out. “Fine. We don’t have to do anything but chat about books.”

“Oh? You’d be happy with that kind of evening?”

“So long as I’m with you, love, I don’t really care how the day goes.”

The blush on her cheeks was adorable. He was dropping enough hints that soon enough, Amelia might guess that she was his mate. She knew enough about the shifter world to guess it. So far, his secret was safe.

Wilder didn’t know if he wanted her to guess or if he wanted to hide it from her until her divorce was finalized and well behind her. Yet the more time he spent with her, the harder it was to think that she would have a bad reaction to the information.

Being mates didn’t take away from her dreams and aspirations. If she wanted a library job, he could pull some strings. He could do that. He could do anything for her. He had the money and the resources.

All he had to do was ask her.

Did she want to spend the rest of her life with him?

“That’s a really sweet thing to say, Wilder,” Amelia sighed with a big smile.

It took him a few seconds to catch on that she hadn’t read his thoughts. Nope. She was responding to his comments. “Well, it’s true,” he assured her. “If you want to spend the day in here reading, let’s do that.”

“I hate to bring up the ex, but he hated books. I think he was scared they would give me ideas. I had a book budget. I could only read one book a month, and there were strict limitations to what the book could be.”
