“I told you that I have no idea what I’m doing, Colter,” she reminded.

“We don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to do. If you want to stop now, we can,” he assured.

“No,” she almost shouted. “I want you, Colter, all of you. I’m just bracing myself for what’s next.”

He chuckled and grabbed her wrists into his hands, tugging them up over her head. She was effectively pinned to the mattress by his weight and completely unable to move, let alone brace herself for what he had planned next for her. “Let’s see if that helps,” he teased as he kissed down her jawline. He got to her mouth and licked and kissed his way in. By the time he finished kissing her, she had forgotten to be nervous about what was about to come next. Colter thrust himself deep inside of her core before she could even move and when she cried out, he froze inside of her.

“Tell me that you’re all right,” he begged.

“I just need a minute,” she insisted. Her girl parts felt like they were on fire and Norah was trying to figure out if it was in a good or bad way. Colter gently kissed her lips, and she could tell that it was taking all his willpower not to move.

“I think that I’m good,” she whispered against his lips. “You can move, Colter.”

“Are you sure?” he asked. She nodded up at him and he let out his pent-up breath.

“Thank fuck,” he whispered. He slowly pumped out of her body and then slid back in, and she was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t hurt anymore. Instead, she felt this intense pleasure building deep in her core and she was sure that she’d be able to find another release if he’d help her.

“It feels good,” she whimpered. “Don’t stop.” Colter snaked his hand down between where their bodies were joined and ran the pad of his thumb over her clit, nearly sending her body into a frenzy. How did he do that with just one touch? He didn’t stop as he pumped in and out of her body.

“I want you with me,” he whispered. “I’m so close.”

“Me too,” she breathed, “don’t stop.” He did as she asked, and when he called out her name, it was all she could take. Norah let herself go, finding her release with him and she was sure that it was the most magical thing she had ever experienced. Being with Colter felt natural—right even and there was no way that she’d be able to keep her promise and stick to her ground rules if he kept loving her like he just did. Falling for Colter would be easy. Walking away from him was going to be the sticky part.

Colter

Colter was worried that his last week at the beach house was going to be a bust. It was crazy how time seemed to speed up once he made Norah his, but it had and if he didn’t come up with a plan, he’d have to walk away from her soon, honoring the ground rules that she set up with him. Brooks’s and Savannah’s wedding was two days away and he still hadn’t gotten up the nerve to ask Norah to move in with him when they all got back to DC. Hell, maybe the timing wasn’t right, but he didn’t care. Ginger and Joel were moving to the West Coast about a week after their summer trip ended, and he promised to help pack. Their lives were so up in the air right now. Everything was changing and that made Colter want to do something crazy—like maybe change his life too. He just wondered if Norah felt the same way or if he’d be making an awful mistake by asking her to move in with him.

It wasn’t such a crazy idea. They had spent every night together since their trip to New York. Hell, they had spent every waking hour together since he met Norah in New York City. He was in love with her, not that she’d let him admit that out loud, and judging by the way that she looked at him, she loved him too—not that she’d ever admit that to him. The only way that he’d know how she felt about her moving in with him was to just ask—once he worked up the nerve. He knew the right time to do it too, but he wanted to make sure that his best friend was okay with him asking Norah at his wedding. It was Savannah and Brooks’s special day and he didn’t want to do anything to ruin it as the co-best man for the groom. Plus, the bride would kick his ass if he stepped out of line, and he was pretty sure that pissing off the co-bride’s maid was going to be way out of line. But what if Norah said yes? What if his asking her to take this next step with him didn’t piss her off? He couldn’t risk not asking her, even if it meant that Savannah would be mean mugging him at every get-together for the next year or two.

“There you are,” Brooks said, stepping out onto the patio. “Joel and I have been looking everywhere for you. Norah thought that you went down to the beach.”

“Nope, just sitting here, thinking,” Colter said.

“You’re thinking? Well, that’s dangerous,” Brooks teased. “Is it about work? Man, you can’t leave the numbers alone, even for just one day, can you? Please tell me that you aren’t working on my wedding day.”

“No,” Colter said. He had taken off this whole week to help his best friend get ready for the wedding. This was the first time he had taken off in a while. He had worked from the beach house every morning before heading out to have some fun, and when he had to go into the office, he flew back to DC for a day or two. He loved his job at the largest accounting firm in town, and he especially appreciated that they let him work from home unless he had to meet with one of his top clients. That had to be done in person.

“I’ve taken off to help you, Brooks, just as I said that I would. And no, I’m not out here thinking about numbers. I do have other things on my mind besides accounting,” Colter grumbled.

“Some other things like a pretty brunette that you share a room with?” Brooks asked. Yeah, his friend was the least subtle person that he knew.

“Yes, I’m thinking about Norah. I was going to ask you how you felt about me asking her to move in with me?” Colter said.

“Well, I think it’s about fucking time. I mean, you guys seem to have gotten serious since coming home from New York,” Brooks said. That was what they wanted them to believe, but then, he went and fell for Norah, making it all true. She agreed to sleep with him, but that was all. She made him promise that he wouldn’t go and fall in love with her, and he had broken that promise. There was no way that she’d ever let him declare his undying love to her, and maybe that was for the best. He knew that he needed to take things slowly with Norah if he wanted to win her heart—very slowly.

“Well, you might not like where and how I wanted to ask her to move in with me,” she said.

“Why won’t I like it?” Brooks hesitantly asked.

“Because I wanted to ask her to move in with me while we’re at your wedding,” Colter admitted. Poor Brooks groaned and Colter bit back his laugh. “Sorry, man. I’m just hoping that the romantic atmosphere puts her in the mood to say yes. I mean, she’s a tough nut to crack and well, she’s made it pretty clear that she’s just interested in me for sex.”

“Jesus,” Brooks growled, “too much information. I don’t need to know the ins and outs of your relationship. What happens if she tells you know at the wedding? It’s just a small group of us and I don’t want things to feel awkward or be ruined for Savannah. She’ll kill us both if that happens.” He knew that Brooks was right, but he couldn’t think of a better plan to ask Norah to move in with him.

“I won’t let things get awkward,” he lied. There would be no way that he’d be able to stop that from happening, even if he wanted to. “I’ll wait until the end,” he added.

“Fine, I can’t stop you from following through with your plan, but I think that I need to issue this warning. Don’t fuck up my wedding,” Brooks said, pointing his finger at him.

Colter flashed him a smile and nodded, “Right,” he agreed, “I’ll do my very best not to fuck up your wedding. Thanks, man,” he said.
