I smacked his arm. “Chill man.”

Jacobi said, “This is tough, man.” He looked over his shoulder. “These kids are so young.”

There was a sinister laugh behind us. All three of us stopped walking. “Angelo Isaac.” The voice was familiar. It wasn’t until he said, “Enjoying my sloppy seconds?” that I knew exactly who it belonged to.

“Sloppy seconds?” I stepped to Gigi’s ex and stared him down. “Man, a woman like that is nobody’s sloppy seconds. She’s premiere cut, prime choice.” I dared him to say otherwise.

He smirked, and my fists balled by my side.

“Yo.” Tree was on one side of me. “The hell?”

“Did you know your teammate stole my wife?” He looked up at Tree with another smug ass look on his face.

Tree looked between the two of us. “I don’t know you from Sam. So naw, that’s not something I know.” He tapped my back. “But I know this dude right here is a good dude. Whatever shit you talking must be just that.”

The nurses left their desk and inched closer. A mother had her head poked out of a nearby room. I wanted nothing more than to get away from his trash ass, but I couldn’t move.

“Might want to check your resources. Your teammate is a bum ass dude.”

There were a few things I could have done in that moment. I could have ignored his comments. I could have turned and walked away. I could have cussed him out and dared him to speak another bad word on my name.

What did I do though? I knocked his ass across his face.

“Shit,” he yelled as he gripped his hands against his jaw.

“Keep my name and Gianna’s name out your mouth.”

Jacobi had me by the arm and shouted, “Let’s go.” I followed the two of them out of the hospital. “Bruh.” Jacobi stood across from me outside of the hospital. “Tree, man, call us a car. All those people watching back there, it’ll only be minutes before that shit makes its way to the internet. It wouldn’t surprise me if his punk ass calls the cops too.”

I gripped my hand. My knuckles shooting a little pain as I shook my head. “I fucked up, but did you hear him?”

“I don’t want to ask, man…” Tree eyed me. “You didn’t steal that man’s wife. Did you?”

“Man, fuck you,” I spit and pulled my phone from my pocket. “If you think I’d do some shit like that, you don’t know shit about me.”

Tree threw his hands in the air. “My bad, man. I had to make sure.”

Jacobi laughed. “You couldn’t wait till tomorrow when he cooled down to ask that shit?”

Tree defended his question. “I mean, it’s fresh on my mind now.”

The two of them went back and forth while we waited for a ride. But I needed a semi-expert opinion on the damage I may have done. “Corinne,” I said when she answered, “I fucked up.” I turned from the guys so they wouldn’t hear the details of my conversation.

“Oh hell, what happened?”

But explaining the situation made her go silent. Like super silent. “Corinne. How bad is it?” I asked, fearing it wasthatbad.

“First of all, the media is going to have a field day. Second of all, why the hell would you hit that man? He might press charges. You know how much could be on the line right now?” She snickered. “You know the league is trying to crack down on men behaving badly.” She reminded me, “And this definitely qualifies as such.”

I murmured, “Fuck.”

“Fuck is right, my guy.” Then she told me, “Might want to start damage control. Call your agent. See what she can put out in the press to counteract the news coming from this.”

“Thanks,” I told her before ending the call.

“Car is here,” Tree shouted.

The car dropped us in front of the stadium. Before I dashed to my truck to avoid any journalist who caught wind of the story, Jacobi stopped me. “I told Coach we had to leave.”
