That’s what it is, I didn’t wear a condom. It had to be the reason she felt so amazing around my cock. It wasn’t until I married that I had sex without a condom. Sex with Nicolette felt so different because it was different from the sex I usually had.

“Are you on birth control?” I’m not sure if I want her to be or not. I never wanted children. Blanca wanted them, so I gave her what she wanted when she asked for it.

She shakes her head. Sitting up, she wraps the dress back around her. “Where are my panties?”

I pull them from my pocket. She reaches out for them, but I shake my head and return them to my pocket. “Mine.” My cell goes off. It’s the front desk of the building. “Yeah?”

“Sir, Dominic Sabatini is here to see you. He says he has an appointment with you. Is he allowed up?”

Fuck. I check my watch. I can’t believe I forgot the appointment. I don’t forget things. “Yes, let him up.” I tell him before turning my attention back to her. “Dominic Sabatini is here. He’s coming up now.”

“Dominic Sabatini? Here? He’s coming up here? Oh my god, he’s going to know we had sex. Oh my god—” Her eyes are wide as she paces wildly.

Grasping her by her arms, I stop her. “This wasn’t planned, but I’m glad. Dominic will understand I’m not letting you go.”

CHAPTER6

Nicolette

God, would him saying thatpleasestop being so fucking hot. I want to argue. I want to say something about hiding in the bathroom until Dominic Sabatini leaves. Only my entire body is still greedy for more of Manuel. The mere thought of him being too far away for me to touch has me following him out of the bedroom when the doorbell rings far sooner than I’m ready for.

I’m annoyed by how completely unruffled he looks. I swear, his hair isn’t even out of place. Meanwhile, I’m positive I look like I’ve been fucked. And dear god, I’m not even wearing underwear. The wet heat of him still inside me shouldn’t keep me on a low boil for more of it—him inside me. Should it?

“Nicolette?” Dominic’s sapphire blue eyes are studying me with concern. “Are you all right?”

Blushing, my eyes fall from his. I nod.

“I’m marrying her,” Manuel says flatly, daring Dominic to say differently—or maybe me.

Sapphire eyes are wide. “Richie didn’t mention he already spoke with you about Nicolette taking the place of your previous fiancée. That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Luca is recovering, so he couldn’t meet with you about finding a woman to replace your former fiancée. I gather you’re satisfied?”

Manuel nods. “Once the marriage contract is settled, I’m going to kill Richie.”

“Kill my father? You can’t do that!” I’m trying to pull away from him, but he won’t allow it. A hand is around my arm and tightens to the point of pain the more I struggle—until I give in.

Manuel isn’t even looking at me, his eyes are on Dominic. “The bruise on her cheek is from his hand. He is unraveling, bringing Feds down on his head, the Outfit, and mine. Before he sets his world on fire, he needs to be put out.”

Dominic is oddly silent before slowly nodding.

“Dominic?” I can’t believe he’s not arguing with Manuel.

“I’m sorry, Nicolette. But your father,” he shakes his head. “If I don’t tell Manuel yes, there are going to be others who will do it. This is business. I’m going to sanction within the Outfit what Manuel would do whether I approved it or not.”

I shake my head. “I can’t believe this. I could never forgive you for killing my father. How dare you think I could?”

His frown is scary enough to stop me fighting him. “You think I would forgive him for striking you? For using you as a commodity to be sold? Why do you forgive him and not me?”

The questions hit me like a blow. No. He’s wrong. My father, he’s…he, the nuns whispering to honor my father sweep over me. He wants what’s right for me. He is to be obeyed. Even with my mother in pain from their relationship breaking down, she told me to obey my father.

“Nicolette?” Dominic is frowning.

It hits me he’s said my name a few times. “What?”

“You are willing to marry Manuel? If so, I will talk to your father about sitting in on the negotiation for your marriage contract tomorrow.” Dominic nods to the door. “Or you can leave with me now.”

“Why are you sitting in on the negotiation?” I don’t think anyone sat in on the negotiation between my father and Eddie’s.

An eyebrow goes up at my question. It isn’t often a woman questions a man in the Outfit and definitely not the underboss of the Outfit. “As Luca took Manuel’s fiancée, he is asking I handle paying your father on Manuel’s behalf. There is also the fact since Manuel is not an Outfit member, I need to ensure an agreement does not compromise Outfit business.”
