What are you doing?

I’m about to order room service for dinner. What’s up?

Thomas

I booked you a celebratory dinner at the steakhouse down the road from where you’re staying.

Reservation is for 6:30 pm.

I really don’t feel like going out.

Thomas

Get your head out of your ass. You need to eat, and the meal is already paid for.

I groan from the bed, annoyed as shit to have to leave my hotel room to go get food. But I know the intentions of my brother. He’s not dumb. This is a way to get me out of this uncomfortable bed and stop sulking until I get home.

Two more days until I’m home.

Two more days until I can either sleep again, or sulk in misery.

I count down in my head. Nervous energy swirls in my stomach.

Never in my life have I loved someone the way I love Avery Woods. She consumes me. Our chemistry is combustible. She lights a fire inside of me that I never want out. If things don’t work out the way that I’m hoping they do when I get home, I truly believe deep inside me, that I will never love anyone the way I do her.

I decide to jump in the shower to wash off a day of meetings before going to this fancy steakhouse that Thomas set me up with. It’s hot as shit down here, and I swear there was no air conditioning in the conference rooms. My brain is shot from all the information I had to try to retain too. I without a doubt feel more confident in becoming CEO after these training sessions though.

CEO. What a wild thing to be called now.

I own an entire real estate company.

The fucking dream come true.

The thought makes me smile as I step out of the shower. I throw on a pair of dress slacks and a white button down shirt, leaving the top button undone for a more relaxed look.

Just as I’m about to grab my phone to call a taxi to meet me downstairs, there's a knock on my door.

I don’t bother checking the peep hole when I swing the door open.

I’m rooted in place, my jaw drops to the floor, and my body tenses at the sight of her standing here. In Austin. Outside of my hotel room door.

“Avery,” I finally breathe out as my entire body relaxes.

“Are you ready for our date, boss man?” she coos.

“What…” I pause. My gaze sweeping her body that’s covered in nothing but a little black dress to make sure she’s real. Making sure this isn’t just the heat outside making me hallucinate. “What are you doing here?”

She steps into me. My grip is still tight on the door, trying to keep myself grounded in reality. I angle my head down to maintain eye contact with her. “I couldn’t wait until you got home.”

“Tell me this means what I think it means.”

“It means, we have a date to get to.” She adjusts the strap on her purse over her shoulder. “Let’s go. The car is waiting for us.”

I blink a few times, shaking myself from the trance I’ve just been put in.

I don’t respond because I’m still in shock. But I grab my wallet and follow her out the door.
