Marc throws his head back on the pillow and has now entered a full-on laughing attack. “I can see someone thinks it’s funny that I have no idea what’s happening right now.”

“You’re cute when you look all lost.”

He scoops his arms around my midsection and pulls me down to the pillow with him. I nuzzle my face into his neck and the scent of fresh soap wakes me up fully. My eyes widen as I pull back and meet his eyes.

“You showered already? How long have you been up?”

“I’ve been up since six. I’ve lived an entire day while you laid here catching flies with your mouth wide open.”

I playfully swat at his arm. “I do not catch flies.”

“You do too.” He presses a kiss to my lips before he climbs out of bed. “But you really have to get up now. You need to shower, get dressed and we have to head out. Chop-chop.”

“I can see you’re carrying over your bossiness from last night to this morning, huh?” I smirk.

“You love my bossiness.” He winks.

“Debatable.”

“You weren’t complaining last night when I had you screaming my name for the whole city to hear while you took my cock like the good girl you are.”

I feel heat creep into my cheeks, and I bite down on my lip.

He’s not wrong. I fucking love it.

“Where’re Joey and Chandler?” I ask.

“I dropped them off with Emiline.”

Two months ago, I surprised Marc with his dream dog. A French bulldog. He’s made it very clear that he loves dogs. After going back and forth on the name, we decided to keep the name he had. Joey honestly just fit him and his little wrinkled up, confused looking face.

Then a few months ago, a cat was rummaging around Peyton’s backyard. One night we were sitting around her fire pit and the cat came right up to Marc. I remember so vividly how our eyes widened at the man who hates cats, attracting a fluffy white and gray feline.

Thomas made a comment about how we should bring it home with us. Marc was hellbent on never owning a cat. But that night, the furball wouldn’t stay away from him.

Needless to say, we now own a cat. Not just any cat… a grumpy cat that has a permanent scowl on his face.

Once we introduced him to Joey, they became inseparable, which prompted the name Chandler after my favorite TV show.

“I thought Oliver was our permanent pet sitter?” I laugh.

“He’s at the cabin. There’s supposed to be a winter storm at the end of next week. He volunteered to head up there for us to make sure everything is winterized.”

“He could have taken them with him.”

“I said the same thing.” Marc laughs. “But Em is happy to play with them for a week.”

The past few months we have settled into a normal that I didn’t think would ever exist for me. After Thomas and Peyton’s wedding, I officially moved into Marc’s penthouse. Our relationship has been unconventional from the start. How we went from barely being able to tolerate each other, to fake engaged, to real engaged, to living together. We’re so ass backwards but neither of us have been happier than we are now.

Every wall that we had put up from our pasts has crumbled. Each of us vowing to protect our hearts at all costs. Never in my life have I trusted someone with all of me, the way I trust him. When I came back from taking some time to work on myself, I saw first-hand the damage it caused him. If I had known it would be that bad… I would’ve tried harder to stay.

But in the end, it was what was best for us.

I truly believe deep in my soul, that if I had stayed, we would not be as good as we are today. That says a lot, considering it’s only been a few months. Everything that we’ve been through over the summer has just made us stronger as a couple.

“Why do I have to get ready so fast? It’s Sunday. Isn’t this a day to relax?”

“Normally, yes.” His grin widens. “Except we have somewhere to be today.”
