“You want to become an agent?” I gape at her, surprised by her admission.

“It’s not something I everdreamedof, or anything. But lately… I have been thinking about it more and more since working here. I just can’t stand school and all that bullshit. That's why I have never pursued it,” she admits. “But… if you’re willing to help me, then I think this can work.”

I can’t help the grin that forms on my lips as it takes over my face. There is no denying that Avery can read everything I am feeling right now. Relief mixed with appreciation.

“What does the building have to do with this though?”

“Oh, that.” She throws her head back and laughs uncontrollably. “You know how many millionaire theme books I’ve read where the guy just buys the girl buildings? Don’t answer that. I’ll tell you… the answer is a whole damn lot of them. I just wanted to see what your reaction would be.” She slows down her laughing and changes to a more serious tone. “Don’t even think about it. I don’t want a building.”

“Lucky for you… I’m a billionaire.” I wink.

“Cute.” She shoots me a cheeky grin.

We both laugh for a moment as some of the tension between us slips away.

“I will set you up with the same course I took, if that works for you.”

I cross the room until I am standing inches away from her. I take a minute to really take in her features. Her light blonde hair flows freely over her shoulders and her light blue eyes twinkle under the fluorescent office lighting. Avery truly is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. I’ve known this since the first day she stepped into my office, but being this close to her has my heart pounding in my chest.

I gently tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear, and I can hear her breath hitch at my touch while her shoulders stiffen. Slowly, I lean in to whisper in her ear, “Did you break up with your boyfriend?”

She gasps before she takes a step back away from me and rounds her desk to sit back in her chair. “No, Marcus,” she says, annoyed. “First of all, he was never my boyfriend. I’ve just been seeing Dean casually.”

“Dean? What a stupid name,” I say to which she rolls her eyes.

“And I planned to cut ties with him soon, anyway. He’s a little… clingy.”

“Well…” I can’t help the smile that forms again. “So we’re really doing this, Avery? You’re going to help me out here?”

“I’ll do this for you. But we have to lay down some rules here.”

Knowing Avery and how she functions, I am willing to bet that this list of rules is longer than a CVS receipt. And it’s probably handwritten and color coded.

I move to take a seat in the chair on the opposite side of her desk. I can’t help but watch Avery as she moves her chair closer to her desk, leans on her elbows and stares at me intently. Avery exudes confidence and thinking back to her idea to become a real estate agent, I can see it being an ideal career choice for her. I would bet every dollar to my name that she would dominate a board room and close any sale that’s placed in front of her.

She has this wildfire inside of her. My dick should not find that so appealing.

“You look good behind that desk.”

“Nope. I know where this is going. Not happening.” She waves me off before putting her fingers in her ears. “Blah blah.”

“You didn’t even know what I was gonna say.” I can’t help the child-like laughter that comes out of me. She totally knew where I wanted to go with that.

“You were going to say, ‘but you would look better on top of it.’” Bingo. She caught me. “And the smug grin on your face tells me I’m right.”

“You’re wrong…” My eyes scan her briefly. “But now I’mdefinitelythinking about that.”

Her cheeks turn a shade of red right before she shoots me a scowl that screams,I’m going to chop your balls off.

“Alright, alright. Back to your rules. Let’s hear them.”

“I have a couple of ground rules that I’ve been thinking about,” she starts, holding her pointer finger in the air. “The first one is the biggest. Absolutelynokissing.”

“How do you expect we sell the fact that we’re in love if we never kiss?”

“Simple,” she retorts. “How often do you see couples making out in public? Don’t answer that. It’s hardly ever. If you ever see a couple making out in public, it is probably because they’re drunk or in that honeymoon stage I hear so much about.”

Touché.
