I wanted to break that fucking rule, and all the other stupid rules she made.

Except seeing other people. There is not a chance in hell that I could ever see anyone else anytime soon now that I’ve learned how her body feels pressed against mine.

My desk phone ringing pulls me from the thoughts of the person I can’t get out of my head.

“Marc Ford,” I answer.

“Marc, it’s Bill.”

“Good morning, sir. How was your weekend?”

“It was great!” he excitedly answers. “We spent the weekend at Todd’s lake house. Went out on the lake and watched the fireworks from the boat.”

Dammit.

Fucking Todd.

“Sounds like a great weekend.”

“It was. Hey, question for you?”

“Of course.”

“Do you have the reports from the last two weeks? I’d like to see how the offices you oversee are doing.”

I toggle through some screens on my computer to quickly open up my emails to see if I got an email from Jessica with last week's reports yet.

Shit. She didn’t send them to me.

“I have the reports from two weeks ago, but it looks like Jessica hasn’t emailed me ones from last week yet. I can have them for you within an hour.”

“Great,” he replies. “No rush. If you could just email them to me by the end of the day, that would be perfect.”

“I can do that. Now, I also have a question for you.”

“I might have an answer.” He laughs back.

“Are you and Cathy free for dinner sometime this week? Now that Avery is all settled into the penthouse, she mentioned she’d love to have you over to help with some wedding questions she has. She can’t stop talking about how great Cathy was with her wedding advice.”

All lies.

I hate myself for everything that’s come out of my mouth.

“She can’t stop talking about it either! We could do it tonight, or tomorrow night.”

“Excellent.” I pull out my cell phone to shoot Avery a text message. She’s not in yet because I told her to come in late this morning since she had to take her mom to the airport last night. “I will ask her which day works better and get back to you. If that’s alright?”

“Works for me, boss.”

Boss. In my dreams.

We hang up and I fire off a text to Avery.

I know you’re not coming in for another hour, but I have a question.

AVERY

What can I do for you, boss man?
