“Hardly.” He throws his head back with a scoff. “You we’re up for the better part of the night. You may feel alright now, but it’s only a matter of time before your body catches up and realizes how tired you really are.”

I press my lips together realizing he’s not wrong. My body is already tired. Despite being able to put food in my mouth, and keep it down, I feel weak. I feel like I could probably sleep all day.

“Put a movie on and get some rest.”

“Fine.” I stand from the stool. “You’re the boss.”

I throw myself on the couch, wrap the blanket around myself and switch to the channel that playsFriendson repeat. It’s a guilty pleasure, really. It doesn’t matter how many times I watch any episode, it’s just as funny as if I were watching it for the first time.

“Come. Sit.” I pat the sofa next to me. “You’ve been up all night too. Watch a few episodes with me.”

Marc rounds the couch but doesn’t sit down just yet. “What are you watching?”

“Friends. Duh.” I playfully roll my eyes.

“I’ve never seen it.”

My mouth falls open. “You’re joking right?”

“Nope.”

“How am I about to be married to a man who has never watched a single episode of the greatest show of all time. That’s probably the biggest red flag.”

Marc laughs at my antics before he sits down on the couch next to me, relaxing his legs on the ottoman in front of us. He takes the bottom half of my blanket and throws it over his waist. It’s barely enough to cover him.

The episode on right now is the one where Ross is trying to find out who ate his sandwich at work. Marc becomes so engrossed in the episode, he doesn’t realize his hand has been on my thigh over the blankets for the last twenty minutes. Every so often his thumb brushes back and forth. I can’t help but wonder if he needs this connection with me after the night I just had.

He also hasn’t stopped laughing at the show, and I realize I’ve missed half of it because I can’t stop watching this man laugh. Marc doesn’t do it enough, that’s for sure. I never thought I’d actuallyenjoythe company of a man before. Doing the most mundane thing like watching a TV show.

After the second episode, Marc finally stands up. “Alright, time for you to rest.”

I fight back a yawn. “Come on. I’m not even that tired.”

“You’re yawning. I have some work to catch up on anyway. Do this for me, Ave.” He practically begs. I can’t fight this man for anything, nor do I want to. The way he has the most caring heart I’ve seen in as long as I can remember.

“Ok,” I whisper.

I lay my head down on the pillow as the third episode starts. Marc lifts the blanket from over my waist and brings it above my shoulders to tuck me in comfortably.

He leans down, pressing a quick kiss to my forehead. I look up, smiling uncontrollably at the man who would do anything to make me happy.

Then I fall asleep in the comfort of Marc Ford's penthouse.

The heat of the sun blaring on my face wakes me from a deep sleep. I reluctantly open my eyes and notice it’s not just the sun shining through the windows, but it’s the sunset.

Telling me I slept all day.

Shit.

I throw myself off the couch and jump up faster than I should have. Sending a lightheadedness through my head from going twenty-four hours with little sustenance in my body.

Strong arms are quickly wrapped around my waist from behind, steadying my balance from falling over. My hands gripping his forearms like my life depends on it.

“I got you.”

Three words in my ear as he pulls my body into his, making me feel dizzy all over again. My feet feel like they will fall out from under me. My body tenses under his touch, forcing me to turn around and meet his stare. The eyes that look back at me are filled with so much more than I ever asked for.
