Heat flew up from her core. Her chest burned, then her neck, and finally her cheeks. Her hair even prickled, and she resisted the urge to fan herself. She hadn't had a reaction to anyone like this, well, ever. She'd dated a couple handsome men back in the day. She never burned up at the slightest smile.

A waitress stopped at their table. "Can I get you two something to drink?"

"Oh." She glanced at Henry waiting to see what he was going to order.

He smiled at her. Oh, it was drool worthy too. "I'm on duty, but please feel free to have a drink if you like."

No way was she going to have alcohol in his presence. She had trouble controlling her emotions sober. "I'd like an iced tea, please."

"Sweet tea, hon?"

"Yes, sweet tea."

"And how about you, handsome." The waitress practically drooled.

Henry chuckled, his eyes darted to hers before he responded. "I'll have sweet tea also."

"You got it." The waitress hustled off and Henry chuckled again.

"I love how they talk to you here. Hon, handsome, sugar, it's all so endearing."

She giggled. "It is. I've always loved the south for that reason."

The waitress brought their teas, then took their orders before hustling off once again.

Henry looked across the table and stared into her eyes. "Tell me why you went into negotiating."

"I always had a penchant for it, I guess. My mom used to say I negotiated my way out of her womb."

He laughed and it was spectacular.

"I guess that means you were born to it."

"I guess it does. Did you always want to be a special operative?"

"I didn't know anything else. Except farming. But, when we were kids, Tate and the group, we always played special ops games. We'd have our parents come up with a scenario, and we'd play it out. It's what I always expected to do."

"Your mom's an attorney, you never wanted to go into law?"

His handsome face scrunched slightly. Even that was sexy. "Oh, good lord no. Too awful."

"But you deal with the criminal element all the time."

"But, on this side of the law, so to speak, I can make sure they don't continue to be criminals."

"True." She sipped at her tea. "What does your sister do for a living?"

"She's an attorney and living in Indianapolis. She works in private practice in real estate law."

“Like your mom?”

His right shoulder rose and fell. “Mom was largely a business attorney. Real estate was a small part of what she did. But, she’s excellent at both.”

"Wow, your parents must be so proud of you both."

His grin was adorable. The pink in his cheeks was too. "They are. I'm sure your parents are proud of you as well."

"I'm sure they are in their way. My sister, Marina, is a veterinarian in Tennessee.”
