"Nope. Why don't you join my parents and I for dinner? I promised to take them to Porters. Of course, that means we'll have eaten there two nights in a row. Are you up for it?"

She chuckled. "I am. It was great last night. But I don't want to take up your time with your parents."

He laughed and shook his head. "Don't worry about that. They liked you." He leaned in, "And so do I."

Her eyes snapped to his. Her lips formed the smile to beat all smiles. "I like you too." Her cheeks turned a pretty shade of pink and his stomach fluttered.

He held his hand out for her to precede him from this stifling room. He followed closely behind her, careful not to let his eyes wander to her ass, but damn if that wasn’t where he wanted to look.

The fresh air hit him square in the face as they left the building they'd sat in for the past six hours. He let his hand lay in the small of her back and a thrill ran through his body when she tilted her head up and smiled at him. He grinned and inwardly celebrated just being near her once again.

Once he'd pulled them from the parking lot he asked, "Do you want to go to the hotel and change?"

"Yes, please. What time are you planning on having dinner?"

He shrugged his right shoulder, "I believe my mom said six. That will give you a couple of hours to relax and let the day fall away."

She sighed, "That sounds lovely."

He navigated a corner. "If this job sits so heavy on your shoulders, why don't you do something else?"

She chuckled, "My sister kind of said the same thing to me last night. The quick answer is I don't know what I'd like to do. I've always been told this was my path and wasn't allowed to consider anything else."

He swallowed the dry lump of irritation in his throat. How could her parents not encourage her to do what she liked? "What do you like to do. Say, for fun?"

Her cheeks turned a deep pink and her eyes pointed to her shoes. "I don't know how to answer that. My life is work, then more work."

He quickly turned the truck into a parking lot and swung around to head out to the road in the direction they'd come from.

"What's going on?"

"I want to show you some things in town."

He pulled into the parking lot of Blooming Lovely, the flower shop in town. He jumped from the vehicle and mentally shook off the irritation he felt at her parents. As he helped her down from his truck, he held her hand and tugged her lightly into the store. Inside, the smell of various flowers enveloped them. Mixed with the cool air, it felt to him a bit cloying, but he wanted to see if she liked plants and flowers.

"What are you looking for in here?" She whispered.

"To be honest, I wondered if you liked it in here. Do you like flowers and plants?"

She shrugged. "I guess. I mean they're pretty. But I don't know a thing about them."

"But do you want to learn?"

Her head tilted and her slim brows furrowed slightly. "Not really."

He grinned. "That's a start."

Her head shook but she said nothing. She turned and looked at the flowers on display, slowly sidling along the rows. "This one's pretty."

"What is it?" He questioned.

Her slender shoulders shrugged once more. "I don't know." Lifting a tag from the side of the flower she nodded. "It's a Gerber Daisy."

He grinned. "That's cheating."

"I didn't study for this test."

He laughed. "Fair enough." He started toward the door. "Are you ready for your next test?"
