Everleigh stepped forward and hugged his dad too. "Thank you. For everything. I've never really had people I could count on."

"You do now."

She sniffed and he hugged her close once again. His dad turned to leave. "Wait, Dad. How did you get here?"

He pointed to Harper. "I walked. My truck is three miles down the road."

"I can give you a ride."

His dad grinned. "I called your mom. She was sitting with her phone in her hand. You know."

He chuckled. "Yeah. I know."

Tires on the driveway alerted them to her approach and he walked out of the barn with Everleigh tucked tightly to his body.

His mom stepped from the truck and ran to his dad first. They hugged. He kissed her lips lightly. Then she ran to him and Everleigh. She wrapped her arms around them both and hugged them together.
