Nico mutters in Italian and begins stripping off his shirt. I help him, running my hands over each muscle he bares. I lean up to lick one of his tattoos, and he exhales sharply and shoves me back against the bed, kicking off the rest of his clothes quickly and grinding against me in earnest.

“Please,” I whine, pulling his lips to mine.

His kiss is not the controlled as it was before—it’s ravenous but still sweet. We tangle with one another in the bed as he rolls me on top of him, pressing my naked body against his. I roll my hips, loving his shuddered response.

“So fucking impatient,” he growls against my lips.

“Can you blame me? I just want to fuck the father of my child.”

That’s the last straw for Nico. He groans and flips me onto my hands and knees, lining up with my entrance and thrusting without mercy. I cry out, coming undone on his steel-hard cock as he buries it in me over and over. It just draws out my orgasm, pleasure careening through me as he wraps one hand in my hair and fucks me harder.

A moment later, while I’m still gasping and trembling, he moans as he finds his own release, pressing deep inside me and kneading my ass the entire time. He leans forward to press kisses all over my back for several long moments.

Finally, I collapse, still trying to catch my breath.

Nico turns me and tucks my back against his chest, wrapping his arms around me tightly but comfortably. Something about it feels so protective. He kisses along my shoulder, and I can feel a smile on his lips.

“Sei perfetto mio crudele tesorina.”

God, he’s so warm. I shut my eyes and sigh happily, drifting off to sleep at once.

Chapter 18

Nico

“Someone’s happy,” Percy notes, raising his eyebrows as he steps out of Giovanni’s car. We’re meeting in the parking garage a block away from my apartment building because the idea of going anywhere further from Sybil after yesterday’s events didn’t agree with me.

I manage to keep my face impassive. Just because he’s right doesn’t mean he needs to know it. “Why did you need to meet up?”

“Just things to discuss about the family’s affairs. You went MIA yesterday. Speaking of which, how is Sybil doing? Heard you found her in the woods and busted up some Gatto in the process. Is she okay?”

He looks genuinely curious to know. I raise my eyebrow, and my friend smiles sheepishly. “Hey, she’s an unruly pain in the ass, but I don’t mind her. I think she’s good for you.”

Right again. I consider breaking our big news to Percy but quickly decide not to. I’ve been on Cloud Nine all morning thinking about it—Sybil and I are expecting. If my urge to protect Sybil wasn’t intense before, it’s now dialed up to ten. I don’t want anyone knowing about our precious baby unless it’s absolutely necessary.

“She sprained her ankle.”

“Well, I don’t envy her. Especially because I can only imagine how pissed you were. Did you at least take it easy on the poor thing?”

Poor thing?Sybil must’ve gotten Percy wrapped around her finger somehow if he cares this much. I fold my arms. “Percy.”

“Right, right. We’re here to talk business, not your personal life. Looks like the Gatto you battered up yesterday delivered your message all right. Probably helps that they still can’t find the other one’s body,” he shrugs. “Anyway…the bad news is they retaliated. Took out Pete Sartes.”

Damn it. Another enforcer. He was new, and desperate for money. The Attolinis kept him from accepting an offer from a Gatto loan shark and offered him the job with good pay. He needed it for his young wife’s ongoing medical bills.

“Did you talk to Mrs. Sartes?” I ask. If they haven’t, it falls to me to watch a woman’s life end yet again, learning she’s now a widow.

He shakes his head, face darkening. “They got to her, too. Said they were putting her out of her misery and wanted you to thank them for it.”

Hot anger stirs in my stomach along with a newfound understanding—and new fear. What if it had been Sybil? I face the possibility of being brutally murdered every day. It’s the way of things for anyCapo Bastone, and even more so because of the feud still raging between the Attolinis and the Gattos. If one of the Gattos nailed me, they would turn to Sybil next. And if they knew about our child…

My fists clench. I can’t stand the thought of them being hurt. My lifestyle is dangerous—it always has been. My father raised Johnny and me to be prepared for it, but I’d never put my own kid through this kind of hell.

But there’s no leaving the mafia. The only way to protect Sybil and the baby is forward. Going through with the rest of my father’s requirements and offing Lorenze Gatto. Once he’s gone and my father and I have peace in justice, this feud will die off. I’ll have my heir, and I’ll have my father’s position—and we’ll all be safer for it.

“Boss?”

“Contact any family they had,” I finally say. “Whatever he would have been paid for the rest of the year, send twice that to his family so they can have a decent funeral.”
