There were no guarantees. The best thing about it is I would have Bash. He might not fall in love with me, but he would be devoted to me. He would stay by my side no matter what.

Going into a relationship, you should never try to change your partner. It didn’t work. I didn’t want to change him. I wanted to bring some light into his dark world. He is my dark angel, and I know deep down he would protect me forever.

I roll out of bed and stand on shaky legs. I won’t be getting any sleep if he is not next to me if nothing else. I tiptoe into the hall and to his room next door. I hesitate and look down at myself. I stole one of his dress shirts when he wasn’t looking. Weirdly, I wanted to smell like him. He smells so good, like cologne and man. A very hot man.

If he is awake, he probably heard me stop outside his door. I jerk the door open too hard. The noise is loud as hell, and I wince. I roll my eyes at my less than graceful entrance, but I’ve gone too far to turn around. The room is dark, too dark for my eyes. I stumble to a halt blinking rapidly, hoping for my vision to adjust. The blinds are closed, so the light from outside is not helpful. I hold my hands out in front of me as if I can feel where to go. At least I will be able to feel if I’m about to hit something.

“Do you need help, baby?” Bash’s humorous voice floats over.

“Uh, nope,” I mutter. I hit my legs on a chair and curse. “You didn’t know your mate would be such a dork.”

“You’re adorable,” he says softly.

“Sure, let's go with that,” I snort.

“Is that my shirt?” he asks.

“Um…” I hum.

He takes pity on me, and I feel his hand wrap around mine, guiding me to the bed. “It is my shirt.”

“I stole it. I won’t give it back,” I say stubbornly.

“You didn’t have to steal it. All you had to do was ask. It gives me pleasure to see you in my things,” he sighs.

He lays back on the bed as I crawl onto it. My eyes adjust more, and I see him resuming the manly pose. The one where the hot guy is shirtless, flat on the bed, his one arm bent cushioning his head, and his feet crossed at the ankles.

From now on, I will refer to it as the hot-as-hell pose.

“So I can take them whenever I want?” I ask.

“Yes.”

“Awesome. Another perk of being your mate,” I say, smiling. I face him sitting up, my hip to his. “You can’t sleep?”

“No,” he says softly.

“Me either,” I say.

“I know. I could hear you.”

“Did I say anything out loud? Because sometimes I do that, and you shouldn't believe anything I say in those moments.”

“You did not,” he says, chuckling.

“Good.”

“Did you come in here for a reason?” he asks.

“Yes, I have to sleep beside you, or I’ll be awake all night,” I confess.

“Really? I’m glad.”

“Your glad I can’t sleep?” I tease.

“I’m glad you need me,” he says seriously.

“Bash, I think I’ll always need you,” I say softly.
