“It definitely is,” I say as he eases into a spot.

“I’m not convinced yet that he is.”

“Me either,” I agree. “Maybe we should follow him inside.”

“Act like we are a couple?”

“Not too much. I like you, and I’d hate to see Bash hurt you,” I say solemnly.

“I like me too.” He opens his door. “Let’s go. We’ll play it by ear.”

I have to run to catch up with his long strides. I shove away the thought that Bash wouldn’t like this. We enter the opulent hotel lobby. The enormous gleaming chandelier distracts me. As I’m gazing at it with wonder, I slam into Bishop’s back. He reaches to steady me and gives me a chiding look.

I love that he doesn’t treat me differently because I’m a woman or because of any stories he may have heard about me. He hasn’t made fun of the profession I chose. He makes everything so normal.

We slowly walked in the path Travis took. I hug the wall in stealth mode until Bishop pulls me beside him, trying to hide his smile. I shake myself and get in the game. I smile blindingly at Bishop and blink rapidly. We have to look like we are just another couple, checking into a hotel, expecting to have lots of sex. It wouldn't be a hardship with Bishop, but it feels wrong to even think about him in that way.

Bishop jerks me to a halt, feet away from Travis. He’s talking to someone, but it’s not a woman. A middle-aged man in a fancy suit stands before him, smiling.

“We have it set up, sir,” the suit says. “She is going to love it.”

So he is doing something for a woman. Shit, I don’t like being wrong.

“It has to be perfect,” Travis says desperately. “Are all the flowers being delivered?”

“Of course. They will be arriving soon.”

“I’ll have her rings with me. When I give the signal, I want the music to start.”

Bishop and I look at each other in confusion. “Rings?” I whisper. We glance back to Travis and the man he's talking to, attempting to pretend we aren’t listening intently to their conversation.

“Yes, sir. The water will look amazing at night. We have the staff stringing the lights right now.”

“Okay, good.” Travis rubs his hands down his thighs. “She has to say yes.”

“What woman could resist such a generous proposal?”

“Sorry, I just love her so much. She’s suspicious of me. It’s taken a lot to set this up,” Travis says.

“She’ll say yes. Your girlfriend will love it.”

“Can we help you?” An employee startles us. We jump, turn to her with our mouths gaping, and run.

By the time we are at the truck, neither of us can breathe; we are laughing so hard. Bishop is bent over with his hands on his knees. I’m leaning on the hood, unable to stand.

“He’s proposing to his girlfriend,” I force out.

“You were in stealth mode, like a ninja,” Bishop gasps. “Hands splayed out. I’m surprised they didn’t kick us out.”

“The moment called for it,” I say and burst out laughing once again.

“Fuck, that was amazing,” he says.

We pull ourselves together and get in. “I’m so happy he’s not with another woman.”

“I needed that, lass,” Bishop says quietly. “I haven’t laughed that much in a long time.”

“We won’t tell Bash that you had to grab my arm,” I say.
