All cognizant thought is lost with the first swipe of his heated tongue.

“I love that look in your eyes,” he whispers.

I’m incapable of pulling my eyes from the window.

“I’ve never been to Texas,” I say.

“There’s more to Texas than this airport. I want to show you the world, baby.”

I cover his hand on my thigh with my own, turning my head to look at him.

“I don’t need the world,” I say with a swallow.

He leans closer, pressing his lips to mine before I can get all emotional again.

I’m in that weird place of being ecstatically happy but also cautious that I’ve been given too many great things and karma has to step in to even it all out.

His lips are soft and warm on mine, gentle and kind, and full of all the things we just haven’t said to each other yet.

I’ve been following his lead, matching his confessions one for one because I don’t want to scare him. I don’t want to put myself out there entirely only for him to start pulling back because it’s just too much for him to handle. He was so adamant in the beginning that we couldn’t happen, it makes me cautious that he’ll go back to that train of thought.

His hand cups my cheek when he pulls his mouth away.

“You missed your chance to initiate me into the mile high club,” I say, knowing that kiss turned him on as much as it did me.

I pray we never lose that fire, that every kiss will always have the potential to lead to more.

“And I told you before you snuck off to the bathroom that you’re a screamer, and you’d never survive the embarrassment.”

My cheeks heat with the reminder. That day after Denver when he took me to his room for the first time, things got loud in his room. When we came out, heading to the kitchen for something to eat a couple hours later, we entered the living room to a round of applause. I could’ve died of humiliation.

“After you,” Stormy says with humor in his tone.

I look over to see him standing near the open door of the plane, waiting for us to rise from our seats.

Emmett rises, muttering something about cockblocking despite his insistence that it couldn’t happen.

His hand is warm against mine as I stand, but before I can walk toward the door, he stops me and lifts my chin so I’m looking him in the eye.

“I will take you any place you ever want to go. We’ll get many more chances to join that club.” He presses a quick kiss to my lips. “I’m not a member either, but maybe I’ll charter a private jet and make sure the door to the cockpit is closed.”

I lick his taste from my lips and nod my agreement.

“I can’t wait,” I whisper.

Chapter 32

Legacy

“I never knew places like this existed,” Devyn says, awe in her voice as we walk down the street in Lindell.

“Not many do.”

The town is quaint and as close-knit as a community can get. It’s one of those places where everyone knows everyone else, and there are never any secrets because there’s always someone sticking their nose in someone else’s business, but not in an insanely annoying way. The people here don’t have a problem with asking questions even when the information may be private. The clubhouse isn’t much different. Everyone there is in everyone’s business as well.

“Jinx is from here?”

“Yeah. He has a brother and sister, and his parents are here as well. Well, his mom and stepdad.”

“I haven’t seen a Dollar Store.”

I chuckle. Dollar Stores have spread like wildfire everywhere.

“I think they have town rules about corporate businesses. They only want private owned, less commercial businesses in town,” I explain, wondering how defensive everyone got when the hotel was built out on the highway which technically is only a few yards outside of the city limits.

“That’s adorable,” she says, pointing to the pet store across the street. “Endless Pawsibilities, and the vet’s office? Raise the Woof? That’s so creative.”

I figured the artist and designer in her would appreciate this place more than the average person would.

“How was the luncheon?”

“Everyone was so nice. I thought I’d feel out of place, but they were so welcoming, if a little nosy. I think one of the cousins from out of town has her sights set on Stormy though.” She chuckles as her eyes continue to wander. “She asked so many questions.”

“He can handle his own,” I assure her.

I’m trying to figure out a way to bring up the conversation I had earlier with Jinx, but I don’t want to hurt her feelings. We have this thing about facing the hard conversations and not letting them fester so they don’t cause problems, but I also know the age thing has been an issue in the past.
