“Little bee, I’m just grabbing all my possessions and going to my car. What are you talking about?”

“I’m not your possession, Caden. Put me down,” she growls.

“I’m loving the damsel-in-distress look on you,” I laugh as I walk out of the gym, not putting her down until I sit her in my car.

She goes to punch me in the stomach, but I grab her wrist and kiss the inside of it. “You taste delicious,” I say, before inhaling her scent. “I want to eat you right now.”

“Can it wait until after my milkshake?”

I chuckle against her skin and nod. “Whatever you want, baby.”

I walk to my side and we’re off for milkshakes. I have to drive all the way to the south bank, so we don’t go anywhere that’s either her crew’s territory or mine. I don’t care, it’s worth it, and it’s more time with her.

She slides into a booth while I order our milkshakes and return to the table with her strawberry and my chocolate.

“Are you fighting at the warehouse?” she asks, her brows furrowed and her eyes still on her phone.

“Oh, yeah. Tomorrow night. It’s not the Death Cage or anything. It’s just easy money against some loser from NS—” I cut myself off, pinching my lips when I realize what I’m saying.

I’m sitting next to her rather than on the other side of the booth, and I can practically feel her anger simmering beneath her skin. Her jaw works from side to side as she looks up at me with a deadly stare. “And who’s the loser from NSC?” she says spitefully.

“I don’t know,” I shrug. “Look, I’m not doing this because it’s NSC. I’m doing it because it’s money, and I’m guaranteed the win.”

“That sounds pretty cocky, don’t you think?”

“You’re not the only unbeatable fighter out there, little Scott. I’ve never lost a fight, and I’m not about to start tomorrow. I’m sorry, but your NSC boys can’t do shit against me in the ring.”

“You’re fighting Xi!” she rages. “Emma just told me.”

I can’t help the smile from spreading on my face. “Am I?”

“Caden,” she says sternly. “He’s barely recovered from the stab wounds. The onesyouinflicted on him.”

“Then I guess he shouldn’t be fighting,” I say calmly before drinking from my milkshake.

“Don’t be a dick,” she continues. “Just don’t do the fight.”

“Tell your stepbrother not to fight me. Who knows if I’ll feel as generous as the last time I saw him.”

She nods, not saying anything further. We finish our milkshakes in silence and I know I haven’t heard the end of this, but I don’t add anything.

We’re in front of the diner when I can’t take the silent treatment anymore. “Nothing else to add about that fight, then?” I ask while closing the door behind me.

“Nope.”

“Come on, little bee. Let it all out.”

“I have nothing to say,” she smiles innocently. “You go ahead and fight Xi. And when he gets hurt, I’ll go home with him to help heal his wounds. He can stay with me in my room while he gets better.”

I stop in my tracks, and a step later she stops too, turning back to me. “What?” she asks, pretending she didn’t say all this to piss me off.

“Oh, little bee,” I smile. It’s when she sees that smile that she retreats, unsure she’s safe with me anymore. “Who else but you would be silly enough to try and make me jealous?”

I wrap an arm around her shoulders and calmly walk her to the car. As soon as we’re inside and I lock the doors, she gives me a frightened stare. Her expression is like a deer caught in headlights.

Pretty sure Bambi never looked as scared as she does now.

I put the car in drive and get on the road again.
