“She sure as fuck gives me the same dopamine as one,” Rose throws back, not even looking at me.

“No,” Lik finally tells her. “We can’t adopt her. Alright, what do we want to play? Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit?”

“Trivial Pursuit,” Rose says right away, forgetting about the insane request she was making. That’s what dating three people does to you. The woman is absolutely spoiled rotten.

Just like that, everyone has accepted Alex just the way she is. If there’s something I expect from my family, it’s putting up with people’s weirdness. We’ve seen stranger things than that.

I shake my head. “Playing that game with you is a waste of time. You know all the answers. Takes all the fun out of it.”

She snorts. “Sore loser. Why don’t we let the guest decide? What would you like to play, Alex?” She’s talking to her like she would a baby…or a fucking puppy.

“I quite like Trivial Pursuit,” she answers with a polite smile. We’re all sitting on the living room floor now, and everyone is staring at her. “Only if everyone agrees,” she blurts.

“I wanna be on your team,” I tell her before wrapping an arm around her waist and dragging her closer to me.

“I want to be on Rose’s team!” Lik exclaims.

“Great, I’ll be with Emma,” Billie says unenthusiastically. “Is it even worth us playing?”

The answer is no. The next hour turns into a competitive game between Rose and Alex. The former is a freaking genius who never forgets anything, while the latter lives for studying.

Trivial Pursuit is meant to last forever since the questions can be so hard. But with Alex and Rose, the game is folded before we even have fun.

“That was extremely boring and entertaining all at the same time,” Lik yawns.

“I like her,” Rose tells me.

“I don’t care if you like her or not,” I say, deadpan. “It wouldn’t change a thing.”

Alex slaps my arm, laughing. “God, you’re as grumpy as they come. Thank you, Rose.”

Beside us, the sisters have started their own conversation, and it’s getting heated, putting ours to rest.

“No,” Emma snaps. “Just fucking leave it.”

“It’s nothing to me. Let me give you the money,” Billie insists, not realizing we’re all listening.

“Take the fucking money, Emma,” Lik adds, not knowing what the hell this is about. “Always take the money first, ask questions later.”

“No.”

“Fine. Be a stubborn fucking bitch and stay in your shitty situation.”

Alex’s eyes widen, clearly taken aback by the sudden violence in Billie’s words. If only she knew how much more violent she can get.

She shuffles closer to me, curling in on herself. “Are they okay?”

I stop listening to the argument for a minute, focusing on the way Alex’s face is now twisted from anxiety.

“Hey, it’s fine.”

“It sounds violent. I don’t…I don’t like violence,” she whispers, her eyes darting to the side.

“Don’t worry, cupcake. It’s just a stupid sibling fight—"

“Fuckingcunt!” Emma’s scream takes us out of our side conversation. More specifically, the moment she jumps on her sister.

“Nowthat’sthe kind of family night I’m about,” Rose snickers.
