Tamar stands up suddenly, the clattering sound of the chair falling behind her resonating in the room.
“Xi, if you do this, you’re going straight to prison. For life.”
“It wouldn’t be the first man you kill for me. I would be careful if I were you, though. Think about the cleanup or Tamar’s right: your years in prison will be long and painful.” Her smug smile gets to me. Her controlling tone wrapping around me.
I’m a sucker for this woman’s power, ready to fall at her feet like a knight offering his protection to a queen.
She glances at her father one last time. “I just wanted to beenough, you know?” For a second, her innocence and vulnerability ring through the room again. “I just wanted to be enough.” And she’s back on me. “Do it.” Her order is soft, even as her eyes are sharp. They’re knives digging into me and killing my resolve.
I would do anything for her. I stare deep into her eyes, seeing her love stronger than it’s ever been.
And I pull the trigger.

It’s not ugly. Xi pulled away from his head and shot his chest instead.

He was looking straight at me when he did it.

“What would be the fun in that?” I sneer. “It’s not so nice to be used by the person you love, is it? To be oblivious to the control they have over you.”
He shakes his head, and I smile to myself. I can still fit a Taylor Swift song to my situation. I’m on myVigilante Shitright now, and people are paying for their mistakes. “Alex, I love you. I’m desperately in love with you. I would do anything for you.”
“And you have.Now, we’re even. Now, I don’t feel like a stupid girl who got used.”
“You two are completely insane.” Tamar’s voice is a shocked, choked sound.
We turn to her. “It’s called love,” I chuckle. “Just our version of it.”
“He’s going to get arrested,” she snaps.
“Tamar,” he says, his hands now holding my waist tightly. There’s a strong desire in his eyes. They’re burning with lust. “Go get her mom.”
Despite her disagreement, Tamar runs out of the room. The second she’s gone, his lips crash on mine, his tongue pushing inside my mouth, and everything inside me explodes. My knees buckle, but he’s holding me up. My hands are shaking when they come to grab his t-shirt. I can’t breathe, but who needs air when you’re being kissed that way? It’s soul-shattering, so poignant I can feel his fist around my heart, forcing it to pump warm blood through my veins.
When he pulls away, he murmurs, “I’ve never been so proud of you in my life.”
Only when I sniffle do I notice the tears raining down my cheeks.
“I love you, Alex,” he breathes out as he pulls me to his chest. “I love you with everything I am.”
