Sometimes, it feels like Xi has direct access to what I’ve always hidden from everyone. He says things that make me want to get on my knees and beg him to be true to his word. I want it more than anything else I’ve ever wanted.
“I can handle anything. As long as you promise not to break my heart.”
The tip of his tongue darts to his two front teeth before the corner of his mouth tips up into what I’ve come to understand is his full smile.
“I’m not going to break your heart, Alexandra.”
“That’s exactly what someone who plans on breaking my heart would say.”
Instead of answering, his lips crash on mine. He swallows all my doubt in a kiss from heaven. I moan into his mouth, letting him take an all-encompassing hold of my soul until he pulls away and kisses the tip of my nose. “No breaking your heart.”
