“Come at me again,” I tell them. “See what happens.”
And I’m out, back through the bedroom window, and running back to my car as they run out through their front door.
I take a deep breath the second I drive back to NSC streets. I park in front of my house and let my head fall back against the seat.
There’s only one person I want to see right now. One woman I want to hold in my arms and calm me down.

“Alex.” I startle when someone grabs my arm.
Looking up from my phone, I notice how close I am to falling off the stairs in our house.
“Girl,” Ella sighs. “You’ve been living in the clouds in the last week, and I’m worried you’ll get yourself killed.”
Of course, I’ve been living in the clouds. I’m dating a man who is dying to know my body and soul by heart for the sole purpose of giving me pleasure.
Xi has been sneaking in and out of my bedroom every night for an entire week. While he had promised to fuck me the night of initiations, he’s been respectful to take things slow since he knows I’m a virgin.
So instead of fucking me, he spends nights worshipping my body and bringing me so much pleasure I feel like I’m constantly floating, even when he’s not here.
“I’m so sorry,” I mutter, putting my phone away. “What were you saying?”
She gives me an annoyed look, and I offer her my most apologetic smile. My friends have not been the biggest fan of me seeing Xi. Peach is wholly against it, although Ella at least hears me out when I want to talk about him.
“I was saying Camila and Harper have been asking everyone to help prepare for the Halloween party, and you’re the only one who hasn’t signed up for anything. That girl will eat you alive if you don’t start pulling your weight.”
“It’s in a month,” I groan. “Why does everything have to be so strict?”
“I bet the parties on the North Shore are going to be more exciting.” Ella wiggles her eyebrows at me, making me laugh.
“Too bad we’ll both be stuck here. You said you wanted to go as a dead bunny, right?”
“Yes, baby.” She joins her hands in front of her and hops on the spot.
“I can sew that for you. It’s honestly so easy. I’ll get a short bodysuit, sew a little bunny tail, and make the ears…”
“Alex,” Ella sighs. “Why are you like this? I’ll buy it. I don’t need you to sew it for me. Our friendship doesn’t rely on the favors you do for me. You aretoonice, babe.”
Maybe having my dad on the phone earlier messed with me slightly. I wanted to know if I could use the lake house for the weekend without mentioning wanting to bring Xi, and he asked what I would give in return for the privilege. Since I couldn’t offer anything, he said no.
“Of course,” I smile at my friend. “It was in case you didn’t have time or—”
“I have time. And you take care of yourself, okay? I love you. Goodnight.”
I say goodnight to her at her door and walk all the way to my room. Then I undress out of my uniform and get in the shower. There is not a second of the day I’m not thinking of Xi, and I want to spend all of them with him.
I sit down at my desk after my shower and open my laptop. I need to catch up on some essays. It’s all good and well to have a boyfriend again, but I can’t let it affect my SFU work.
I open an email from my English professor and click on the link to my latest grade. I will have to send an update to my dad to ensure he doesn’t show up asking to see every single essay I’ve written.
It’s been a strange experience to be away from home and without his constant reminders of how I should act. I smile to myself, realizing the second I moved away from the house, I started doing everything he ever forbade me to. Drinking, parties…seeing someone from the North Shore.
There’s a certain excitement burgeoning in my belly when I think of the independence I could develop far from my dad. There’s a weight off my shoulders at knowing I can be my own woman without anyone telling me how.
