In a blur of black fur, he launched himself at the horde of bunnies, an explosion of fangs and claws that tore through them like tissue paper.

His powerful swipe slashed through half a dozen of them at once, rending them into bloody chunks of ears, paws, and pink fur. The sickening sound of flesh being ripped open and the squeals of the bunnies filled the air as he unleashed his wrath upon them.

I watched in both revulsion and awe as my Cheshire Cat tore into the little pink motherfuckers, his powerful jaws snapping shut around their necks, crushing bone and tearing through muscle with each bite.

Blood sprayed all over the ground in a crimson rain, staining his dark fur as he continued his relentless assault on the twisted abominations.

As quickly as it had begun, the massacre was over. The remaining bunnies let go of me and fled in terror, their fluffy tails disappearing into the twisted darkness of into the forest.

I stared in shock as I watched the black leopard gracefully rise up and slowly transform into Chess’s human form, his tiger strip suit still pristine—even though he had brutally fought a horde of killer bunnies. I hadn’t expected such a display of power, and yet there was something unsettling about it.

He seemed so composed, so detached from the carnage he had caused. It made me wonder what other hidden powers Chess had.

Still speechless, I watched as the black leopard stood up on its hind legs and morphed back into Chess’s human form, his tiger-striped suit immaculate, even though he’d just brutally annihilated a few dozen killer bunnies.

“Oh, Alice.” he winced as he approached me and looked me up and down. The look of genuine concern in his eyes cut me to the core. “They really did a number on you. Let’s find a place to stop for the night so I can take care of you.”

Lifting me into his arms, he carried me into the dark, festering forest. The stench of decay hung heavily in the air, and the land itself seemed to moan in agony, as if begging for release from the torture inflicted upon it.

Chess brought me to a small clearing sheltered by towering evergreens dripping with mold and thickets of black ferns. As I rested my head against his powerful shoulder, I watched in amazement as he constructed a small, cozy cottage out of thin air.

The warm, golden light that shone from the windows was like an oasis amongst the dark trees. And even though I’d never seen this house before, I knew I’d be safe, because Chess was by my side.

ChapterFive

ALICE

"Let's get you cleaned up," Chess said softly, carrying me inside the little cottage he’d just built. A fire crackled in the hearth, casting soft shadows on the walls, and a table for two was set off to one side. He sat down on the bed, where he gently stripped me down to my panties, revealing the bites and scratches that marred my body. The sight of my injuries seemed to ignite something within him, a mix of anger and protectiveness.

"Stay still," he murmured as he knelt before me, his fingers glowing with a soft, healing light. He traced them over each bite on my arms and legs and chest, the pain fading away like a distant memory as his magic worked its wonders. I couldn't help but shiver at the sensation of his touch, my body reacting to the closeness of this enigmatic demon who had just saved my life.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, feeling tears of shame burning my eyes. “You and Callister warned me about the bunnies, and I fucked up the second I saw them. I can’t do this. I don’t have what it takes to help you. Even if we find this magic sword, I’ll probably fuck up again.”

“Fucking up is how we learn, Alice,” he said softly, pulling me into his embrace. His warmth surrounded me, providing a small comfort. “Listen to me carefully. This place is designed to break you, to test your limits. You’re stronger than you think.”

“No, I’m not,” I said, wiping the tears off my cheeks. “I can’t read a fucking map, and I almost got myself killed by piranha bunnies.”

“But you were smart enough to ask for help,” he pointed out while tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “And you fought like hell against those bunnies. Your injuries aren’t too bad, to be honest. Does your body hurt anywhere else?”

“I don’t think so,” I whispered, my voice still shaky but more determined than before.

“Are you sure about that?” he asked, his eyes darkening with desire as he looked up the length of my nearly naked body. “No pains? No aches of any kind?”

Just then, a dull, throbbing ache spread through my core, and I shuddered as I watched something shift in his expression.

Chess’s gaze grew heated, dark, and intense, as if a smoldering fire had been burning deep within him all this time, and I was only seeing it now. He leaned in closer, our breaths mingling in the small space between us.

“Shall I make it better?” he asked, and I nodded. Before I knew it, his lips met mine in a searing, passionate kiss.

His mouth was hot and demanding, his tongue probing the depths of my mouth as if searching for some hidden treasure. My body responded without hesitation, melting into his embrace as if we were two pieces of a puzzle that had finally clicked together. The taste of him, a mix of sin and temptation, flooded my senses, driving all thoughts of fear and frustration from my mind.

As the kiss deepened, Chess's fingers traced a tantalizing path up my thigh until they found the lacy edge of my panties. He teased the fabric, tugging it gently before slipping his hand underneath to stroke my slick, aching folds. I moaned into his mouth, my hips bucking involuntarily at the delicious contact.

"A cat always wants the cream, Alice," he purred in my ear as he pushed his body between my knees. Still kneeling in front of me while I sat on the edge of the bed, he took off his jacket and shirt, then set them aside. “Spread your legs and let me taste you."

“Shouldn’t I take these off?” I asked, teasing my finger along the embroidered words that said, ‘Eat Me.’ Chess shook his head and grinned.
