"Here's hoping," I whispered. My mouth had become dry, and my pulse was racing as we ventured further into the toxic labyrinth. With every step we took, I knew our fates were resting on Hatter's unstable wisdom and our own wits.

"Chess! We could use your talents right about now!” Hatter abruptly called out, stopping us in our tracks as a cluster of vines gathered in front of us. It looked like a monster made of hundreds of snakes, writhing around as, getting ready to strike.
"Of course," Chess replied, his ethereal form shimmering as his body flattened and took on the shape of a broad shield. I marveled at his transformation, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Stay behind me," he instructed, positioning himself between us and the deadly vines. "I'll clear a path."
“Sounds like a plan,” I whispered, clutching Hatter's arm as we followed Chess deeper into the maze.
"Everything all right, Alice?" Hatter asked, his eyes searching mine for any hint of doubt or fear.
“Oh, everything’s great. Just great. In fact, it’s better than ever," I sarcastically assured him. My pulse was quickening with each step we took, and I was pretty sure if this ball of poisonous snake vines didn’t kill us, something else would. “Let’s try not to get killed in here, okay?”
“Oh, we can’t let you die in here,” he said with a low, wicked laugh. “Otherwise you’ll never know how it feels to get fucked by a Cheshire Cat demon. Chess has a monster cock, and I want to see you take it for the first time.”
