Opening my eyes, I turn to find gray eyes looking down at me with a soft smile. Isaac is working on something on his computer, and looks as if he’s been awake for a while. Shifting, I wince at the small twinge of pain between my thighs.

“I was too rough,” Isaac mutters, grabbing pain killers from the nightstand. This man is the absolute sweetest. I don’t remember falling asleep in the bed, but I definitely felt safe and comfortable the entire night.

“You weren’t,” I deny with a smile as I sit up. Honesty, I can’t imagine my first time being any better. It was unconventional, but my life hasn’t been normal lately. Taking the pills from his hand that he’s shaken out, I pop them into my mouth. Isaac makes certain I drink water with them, and I check the time.

Wrinkling my nose, I sigh. “I need to get going,” I mutter.

“You do, but I didn’t really want to wake you. Gray made sure you have a camera outside your door, and no one has been inside,” he tells me as I nod.

Yawning, I lay my head on his shoulder. “Thank you. I have to get to breakfast, I’m starving,” I murmur, forcing myself to get up.

“Be careful today,” Isaac says, watching me. “I’m a little slammed today, but Gray added you to my schedule to work with you tonight at seven. This way you have time to have dinner.”

I have a smile I can’t hide as I nod. They both are very concerned about making sure I eat.

“Sounds good. I’m going to take a quick shower, because they don’t have coffee in the dining hall, and I’m dragging today,” I tell him.

“Please be sure to see Patricia for bandages,” he remembers, his eyes dropping to my wrists.

He’s adorable, and honestly no one ever worries about me.

“I promise.” I grin, disappearing into the bathroom.

Twenty minutes later, I’m winding my way through the hallways until I arrive at Dining Hall Four. True to Isaac’s word, there was no one around when I left his room.

Relaxing slightly, my eyes roam the food hall, but I don’t see anyone that I know. Grabbing food, I find an empty seat to eat quickly. My stomach is growling since I didn’t eat much yesterday, so I focus on my plate. I know that I’m being antisocial, but I’m not in the mood to socialize with others.

I’m unsure what I’m going to walk into for class later today, so I’ll focus on what I can control.

Sighing, I look around as I finish, carefully getting up. There’s a few people glancing at me, but I haven’t been any more awkward than usual, so I’m unsure as to why.

Maneuvering through the growing crowd, I focus on breathing as I drop off my tray. Keeping my eyes in front of me, I focus on getting out of the dining hall. I still need to go see Patricia.

“Watch out!” is the only thing I hear as yelling breaks out.

A large body runs into me, and I gasp as I’m knocked off my feet. Two inmates are beating the shit out of each other, forcing me to scramble back on the floor to get out of the way.

“Break it up!” yells a voice that I don’t know, and my chest heaves as I watch the primal violence between them.

I’m so frazzled, I can’t remember what the rules are about violence.

“You okay?” asks a girl next to me as I stand, her eyes wide as she touches my hand.

Nodding even though I’m very much not okay, I watch two burly instructors break up the fight.

“Oh my Gods,” I mutter, my hands shaking.

“Get out of here before they notice you,” the girl suggests, nodding to the door. “They tend to bring in everyone that looks like they were involved, and one of them knocked you over.”

Eyes darting toward the chaos, I murmur, “Thank you,” as I slip out. I definitely don’t want to get pulled into a fight I didn’t start.

There’s chatter in the hallway about what happened, but I avoid it as I walk to the nurse’s office. My wrists were scraped when I was hit, and now they’re both bleeding. Grayson storms past me, his eyes on the dining hall doors, intent on finding out what happened. If my name comes up, I’d much rather deal with him than instructors I don’t know.

I have a history of pissing off authority figures, after all. Blowing out a breath, I knock on the infirmary door when I arrive.

“Come in!” calls out Patricia, and I hope that Larissa isn’t in there with her. She gets on my nerves, and my wrists are beginning to sting.

Going inside, I give a small smile as I see her.
