“You a damn drug. You’re…toxic,” she sang, lowly.

“I was this way for you. Put the pussy away for you. Thinking I would wait for you.”

“Problematic. You know that dick always been problematic.”

I continued listening until the song ended and she busied herself with her phone. A peek in her direction confirmed my suspicions. She was checking her emails. It was a habit of mine, too. As if the universe was working in my favor, the next song was a repeat of one that had played not long ago. I didn’t understand how it reappeared in the rotation, but was thankful when I heard Lucky Daye’s voice. I mashed the button on the steering wheel, pumping the volume and drawing Nature’s attention. This time, it was my turn to talk my shit.

“We ain’t gotta be all put together girl. Maybe we’re better misunderstood. I been tryna be clear in my feelings girl.”

The opening lines were enough to solidify her piqued interest. I allowed Lucky to continue doing his thing, only tagging along when it was absolutely necessary.

“I try to do it. I push ’em back any time you come and see me. Is it mine all mine all mine? All I know is it just feels right. Don’t it feel right?”

My hand with a mind of its own, escaped my side of the vehicle and migrated over toward Nature’s side. It landed on her thigh. The dress she wore had risen as she’d sat in the car, giving me the privilege of skin-to-skin contact. Gently, I squeezed, taking a second to look in her direction.

“My thoughts be doing what they wanna. Got me thinking that I can’t have ya like I want ya.”

Every few lines that appealed to me and our situation, I matched, word for word. Nature’s eyes never left me, and if I wasn’t driving, my eyes wouldn’t have left her. As if our batteries just needed to be recharged, our connection was beginning to spark fire again.

Another song and then another song played before she tore her orbs away from me. I released her body as I turned the corner that Stacks sat on. Pulling up to the valet attendant was almost torture. Pulling the plug on our parallel energy at the moment would require another boost of our batteries by the time we were seated inside.

“Good evening. Welcome to Stacks, Mr. Domino.”

Closing my eyes briefly, I pushed away the saltiness and embraced what was to come.

“A regular, huh?” Nature chuckled, gathering her belongings in preparation to exit.

“For the amount required to reserve, they better know my name every time I pull up.”

I stepped out of the car and watched the attendant run around toward the passenger side.

“Broken fingers are no fun. As a physician, please trust me on this. Touch her door, my nigga, and you’ll be forced to figure out how to straighten each one on your right hand as you wait for paramedics arrival.”

Tossing both hands in the air, the young, dread headed brother stepped back with a smile on his face. His head lifted and fell continuously as I approached the passenger side and opened the door.

“I get it,” he exclaimed. “I get it.”

Admiring Nature’s frame as she stood to her full potential. The sexy, strapless number she wore was a fucking sight. Black in color, it matched my attire. Though unplanned, we looked like a well-coordinated unit.

“Physician?” he asked.

“Yeah.”

“Undergrad, majoring in Biochemistry.”

“What’s the end goal?”

“Surgeon.”

“You’re going to need those fucking fingers.” I chuckled.

“I am,” he agreed. “Any advice?”

“Yeah. But not at this moment. I’m occupied, and so are my thoughts.”

We both eyed a smiling Nature. The innocence in her eyes spread down her face and infected her smile.

“Monday morning, come by my office.”
