“Lucien!” Olivia whirled, her eyes wide. “Stop talking right now.”

“What does that mean?” Marco asked.

“Nothing,” Olivia said. “Go get yourself some juice and sit at the table in the breakfast nook. I’m going to finish making your eggs and then I have to get ready to go before Enza gets here.”

She shot me a dirty look—not the fun kind. The boys obeyed, taking their juice out of the room. I took advantage of their absence to slap my wife’s ass and kiss the back of her neck. She startled and scowled, but I ignored it and headed upstairs.

CHAPTER FIVE

OLIVIA

After the way he’d antagonized me in the kitchen, I was both aroused and annoyed. I’d walked into the bedroom without speaking to him and shut the bathroom door. On the other side, I heard him moving about, getting dressed.

Today, I wore a tight, red dress with ruching that drew the waist to one side. The sleeves came down to my elbows and the neckline was a deep V, showing off the diamond necklace Lucien had given me years ago. My hair was pinned at the nape of my neck, stray curls and curtain bangs framing my face. I looked sophisticated, like a politician’s wife.

He entered the bathroom in a fitted, charcoal gray suit.

“Bend over, Liv,” he said.

“Lucien, I am not having sex with you right now,” I said firmly.

“I’m not asking for sex,” he said. “Bend over the counter. Lift your skirt and take your panties down.”

There was a firm note in his voice and I knew better than to argue. His icy gaze lingered on me as I obeyed. Flushing while I worked my tight dress up around my waist and tugged my panties down around my ankles. He stepped up behind me and gripped my hip, spreading me.

Delicious shame rose and I bit my lip. God, I loved it when he treated my body like it was totally his, when he demanded it.

He pressed me over the sink until my cheek contacted the countertop. Cold metal, slick with lube, touched my asshole. My knuckles went white and heat surged down my thighs.

“Lucien,” I breathed.

“You weren’t very good, Liv,” he said, rolling a plug over my tight opening. “You’ll wear this today for the banquet.”

It wasn’t the first time he’d done this. For our first public appearance together after the mayoral inauguration, he’d had me wear a vibrator for a state dinner. When I saw pictures of us in a magazine later that week, my cheeks were noticeably flushed. The headline seemed to imply that I was nervous in the spotlight. I blamed him, but he enjoyed it too much to care.

He applied pressure and pain jolted through my hips as the plug slipped inside. My pussy pulsed, tender from the arousal gathering between my legs. Silently, he pulled my panties up and my dress down. Smoothing the fabric before helping me to stand.

“Good girl,” he said.

My cheeks glowed. He watched me with a trace of amusement buried in all that ice as I found my heels and slipped them on. His eyes fell to the French tips on my toenails, peeking out of my shoes.

“Wear closed toe,” he said.

I looked down at my sandals. “What’s the matter?”

“Don’t play the innocent,” he said. “Cover yourself properly or you’ll have me stumbling over my speech.”

I straightened and grabbed my purse. “That doesn’t sound like my problem, Lucien.”

His energy was distracted as we bid goodbye to the boys and Enza. But once we were on the road, it shifted. Now, he was focused. Sitting beside me, one tattooed hand on the wheel and the other on my bare thigh. I’d given him something to work for, I’d pulled him back into his element.

“They’re going to ask you if you want to run for governor,” I said quietly.

His jaw worked. “What do you want, Liv?”

I considered it for a long moment, watching the trees and houses go by as we left the city and headed for the country club. Part of me enjoyed Lucien’s stint as mayor because it put me into a different crowd where I was less isolated. Now that I was only doing foundation work one day a week, it was hard to socialize.

The other part of me was unsettled by seeing him become a politician. I couldn’t say it the way I wanted to because it would be insulting, but when he’d donned the mayoral position, it felt like putting a leash on a dog.
