I grab my phone from the pocket of my dress that’s now poking out from under him. I swear to God this better be good.

“What are your messages about?” His fingertips feather through my hair.

I sigh. “My mom. She needs things from the store and Dad wants me to stop by the shop and grab his books from his office.”

“And you’re going, right?” Romeo’s voice is darker than it was before, and truthfully, I don’t blame him. I’ve been so worried about keeping everyone else safe, that I’m neglecting the one thing in life that matters most to me.

Him.

“No.” I stand and slide on my dress. “Well, I’m going, but you’re coming too.”

He stands from the ground, still nude. “What?”

“Yeah.” I link my hands into his, snuggling against his giant frame. “You’re everything… and I’m not going to let you go. So,” I drag in a breath, “you’re coming with me, and if my dad doesn’t approve… then our escape plan is a go.”

“You don’t have to do this, Piper. You love your parents. I can be patient. I don’t want you hating me for some spur-of-the-moment decision.”

I stare up at him, running my fingers through his beard. “I don’t want you to be a secret anymore, Romeo. I love you, and it’s time I let everyone know that.”

He bites back a smile. “You mean it?”

I tip up onto my toes and land a soft kiss onto his lips. “I’m going wherever you do. End of story.”

My sister is right. I love my parents, but I have to start living for myself, and Romeo is the man I want by my side while I do it.

Chapter Twelve

Romeo

If I could’ve done this any other way, I would have.

I’ve met Levi twice. The first time he thought I’d kidnapped his daughter. The second, he’s laid up in a bed with two broken legs and out of it on painkillers.

“What the hell is he doing here, peanut?” Her father’s voice is bubbling with anger. I’m wondering if I should’ve waited outside. The shock of seeing me without context is probably alarming.

“Calm down, Dad. I have to tell you something.”

Her mother steps in. She’s a short woman with thick hips like Piper. “Your father isn’t up for whatever this is, sweetheart. Why don’t we talk in the hall.” She speaks as if she understands what’s happening.

“No,” Levi barks. “What’s going on?”

Piper’s hand shakes in mine. Her relationship with her family matters so much to her. I hate seeing her struggle.

“Sir,” I step forward, holding Piper tighter, “I met your daughter a year ago. We’ve been talking ever since.” His face turns dark red, but I keep going. “It was my intention to transfer to Rugged Mountain MC and move to my grandfather’s farm out on Old Fields Road.” I glance toward Piper. “I—”

“Diesel called me. I know they had a meeting about you tonight.” Levi’s voice settles. “He was pretty torn up about your situation. Said I deserved a heads up about what you were doing with my daughter.”

Part of me wants to be pissed at Diesel, but a bigger part is relieved Levi had fair warning.

“I didn’t expect you to show up tonight but—”

“Dad, I love him.” Piper steps forward. “I love him, and the MC needs your approval to allow him the transfer.”

“You lied to us, Piper, about everything. Plus, I’m sure you have no intentions of going to college now.”

She steps toward her father and reaches for his hand. “I love you both so much, but I have to go after what I want in life.”

“And what you want is a man who’s been part of a group whose done some awful—”
