Anya lets out a deep sigh and turns her attention back to me.

“If you command me to go with you, then I will. All I ask is that you think about it. Please. For me.”

“Anya, if this is where you want to be, if this is where you have found happiness, then who am I to stand in the way?”

Anya’s eyes go big before her arms swing around me, hugging me tightly while pressing her face on my lap.

“Thank you, Kat! Thank you! Thank you!” she screams in utter joy, jumping to her feet and racing out the door, knocking into Teo in the process.

“Beg your pardon, Your Majesty.” She giggles, running off to find Cleo.

“What was that all about?” Teo laughs as he walks into my room.

“That was Anya being happy. Get used to it since apparently she’s going to be living with you for a while. And Inessa and I couldn’t be happier. Isn’t that right, Inessa?”

Inessa just gives me a noncommittal nod of the head.

“I should go into the city to buy some things that will be needed for the lengthy journey ahead for us tomorrow. A month on the road, we are bound to run out of things if we don’t properly prepare ourselves,” she says, her dismissive tone telling me that she’s not at all pleased with me.

“Very well. Go, but I would really love it if you came back before dinner so that we can have one last meal with our friend.”

“As you wish, my queen.” Inessa curtsies and bows to Teo before leaving the room with a gray cloud over her head.

“Well, she doesn’t seem pleased that Anya’s staying,” Teo laughs, dropping on top of my bed.

“No, she isn’t.” I let out an exhale before getting out of my seat to join him on the bed.

“Does she not like Cleo? I know that she can be an acquired taste for some,” Teo says after I’ve slid to lay beside him.

“I don’t think Cleo is the problem. Inessa… she just doesn’t trust easily. And leaving her friend behind where she can’t look out for her makes her anxious.”

“I can understand that. It’s not easy to let go of someone you love,” he utters, saddened, wrapping my pale blonde locks around his finger and tugging them lightly.

“You’re not letting me go, Teo. This is just a little hiccup in our lives together,” I reassure him, placing a tender kiss to his lips.

Teo pushes me back, binding my wrists above my head while hovering over me.

“Is that so? Does that mean you’ve chosen?” He grins excitedly.

“Chosen?” I laugh as he uses his nose to tickle the crook of my neck. “Chosen what?”

“A husband, kitten,” he retorts animatedly, his excitement like a bucket of ice water over my amused disposition.

“I didn’t say that.”

Teo stops his playful antics and just stares down at me for an uncomfortable, pregnant pause. He then drops to my side, covering his eyes with his arm.

“You still haven’t made up your mind. After all this time, you still have one foot here and the other back east. Funny how that is since tomorrow you’re leaving me to head out fucking west!”

“You’re upset.” I chew my bottom lip, hating seeing him like this.

“Of course, I’m fucking upset, Katrina! You’re fucking in love with another man!” he shouts, jumping off the bed to pace back and forth.

“It’s true. I do love Levi and I never once hid that from you.”

“Thank you for your honesty. I really fucking appreciate it,” he retorts sarcastically.

I let out an exhale and go to my knees on the mattress.
