He huffed a laugh and kissed me back.

CHAPTERTWENTY-ONE

My panties were the only article of clothing that hadn’t soaked up Sean’s blood on the floor. Even though I was covered in drying blood, I didn’t want to put on clothes dripping with it. Standing in just my black lace panties, I dropped my suit back to the floor.

Other than Jamie’s suit jacket and the bottoms of his shoes, his clothes were blood-free. I couldn’t say the same for his body. He had blood on one of his hands, on his inner arms, and the side of his neck. With a satisfied smirk, he held out his black button-up shirt to me. I took it and put it on. It covered me to mid-thigh, but it was missing most of its buttons. I found two below my sternum to fasten. The shirt was so big on me that it immediately fell off one of my shoulders. It didn’t cover me much, but at least I wouldn’t flash the whole house my nipples.

“I’ll clean this up,” Jamie said as he buckled his belt.

I winced at the sound of it clinking again before my darkness could slam down a wall between me and what I didn’t want to feel.

Jamie paused. “That’s the second time you’ve done that.”

“Bad memories.”

“I won’t wear a belt after today,” he said.

I shook my head. “Don’t stop wearing one. If I get you out of your pants enough times, I’ll start associating the sound with a good thing instead of bad.”

Smiling at me lovingly, he replied, “I don’t think you’ll have an issue achieving that goal.”

Just as Jamie finished putting on his black undershirt, the door at the other end of the room opened and Dean walked in. His eyes dropped to the dead enforcers at his feet and he slammed the door closed behind him. He took in the rest of the room. “I’m guessing your private meeting didn’t go well.”

I shook my head and began telling them what had happened with Sean.

By the time I was done, Jamie was pissed. “Help me with this, will ya?” he asked Dean, who nodded.

I scooped up my gun off the table and walked toward the door behind Dean. “Do you have a joint on you?” I asked Dean as I approached.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a joint and a lighter. “Are you feeling alright?”

I took the joint with a tiny grin. “I just received multiple orgasms. Getting high will enhance this moment.”

Dean blinked slowly as he stared at me. “You overshare sometimes.”

Jamie snorted at his response.

“There’s no such thing as oversharing with best friends,” I said as I put the joint between my lips.

Dean sighed through his nose as he lit the end of it for me. I walked out after that, leaving them with the cleanup, and ran into Asher in the hall.

He whistled as he took my appearance in. “Did you kill someone or get laid, doll?”

“Both.” I tilted my head toward the chamber as I passed him. “Jamie and Dean are going to need your help.”

Behind me, I heard him open the chamber door and let out a curse, which made me smile.

As I turned into the foyer, I heard Brody say my name. Across the room near the front door, I found him staring at me wide-eyed. “I was just coming to find you,” he said, and it was then that I saw Nicoli, Dario, Ivano, and two De Luca goons standing behind him.

Shit!

I blew smoke through pursed lips and plastered a polite smile on my face. Nicoli’s and Dario’s eyes drifted to the stairs on my right. Brenna was on her way down, but when she saw me, she froze, wide-eyed, and then her gaze traveled to our guests.

“I need clothes,” I said to her.

She nodded and turned to head back upstairs.

I looked to Brody next. “Find Louie and send him to Stef—to the study.” I walked across the foyer toward the hall that led there. “And I need you to call Conor and Rourke and tell them they need to come back to the manor.”
