The next minute wasn't pretty. Grace dismounted easily, taking the reins to steady the horse. Then Michael attempted to do the same, but his foot got caught and he kind of slid slowly to the ground, his ass landing in the grass.

From the corner of her eye she could see Logan trying not to laugh. He took the reins from her and winked at Michael.

“Be good, kids. See you later.” Then he climbed onto Arabella and rode away with ease.

“So what now?” Grace asked Michael. She was still grinning. Wasn't sure she'd ever stop.

“Now we start the rest of our lives together.” He cupped her face, his palms warm on her cheeks as he leaned down to kiss her softly, his lips brushing against hers. She curled her fingers around his neck, rolling onto her tiptoes, her heart hammering against her chest as he kissed her into oblivion.

He was right. She didn’t need a knight in shining armor.

But she was so happy she had one anyway.

Epilogue

A few months later…

Grace couldn’t believe how quickly the weeks were passing. Apart from the past week, that was. She was so ready to see Michael after being apart from him for the last five days.

He’d moved in with her almost as soon as they’d reconciled. And then when all his things arrived from London there hadn’t been much space left in her little house, so they’d bought a piece of land at the edge of the farm.

Their new home was already under construction, a large ranch house that would have enough space for them and maybe a few others.

Because they’d talked long and hard and agreed they wanted children and sooner rather than later. Michael was adamant he didn’t want to be drawing a social security check and sitting on the PTA at the same time.

And in the middle of it all, he and Cam had set up an advisory agency for college football players. That’s where Michael had been this week – at a college in New York, working with freshmen who needed some guidance.

And now it was Labor Day, and Cam and Mia were holding a party to celebrate her being back to full health. Grace smiled at her family as she walked into their backyard. The party was already in full swing – it looked like half the town was there. Everybody wanted to celebrate with Mia.

Things were finally going the Hartson family’s way.

“Auntie Grace.” Delilah ran over to her, grabbing Grace’s hand. “I’m doing my first solo tomorrow.”

“You are?” Grace grinned. Delilah looked so much like Presley, it was scary. “Can I come watch?”

“Yes please.” Delilah nodded happily. “I’m singing ‘Ava Maria’.” Delilah tugged her over to where Presley and Marley were standing.

“Hi.” Grace hugged them both, despite only seeing them yesterday when they played another gig. This time at a concert venue. “You two were great yesterday.”

Presley nodded, his face tight. “Thanks. Want a beer?”

“Sure.” Grace gave him a confused smile. He looked pissed about something. He turned and walked across the yard to where the cooler was. “What’s up with him?” she asked.

Marley shrugged. “We’ve had some interest from a record company.”

“You did?” Grace grinned. “That’s amazing.”

“Tell that to Pres.” It was Marley’s turn to frown.

“Why? Isn’t he happy about it?”

“He refuses to talk to them. Says he can’t play professionally and be a dad.” Marley shrugged. “So that’s that.”

Oh. Grace gave her cousin a sympathetic look. “How does the rest of the band feel about that?”

“They’re pissed.” Marley shrugged. “Understandably. It’s a shot at the big time and he’s stopping us all from taking it.”

“Maybe he’ll change his mind,” Grace said, looking over at him. Presley was leaning down, Delilah whispering in his ear. He reached out and hugged her.
