“You want me to take my top off so you don’t feel like a victim?” she asked him.

Yes, he did. More than anything.

“No,” he replied gruffly. “For the sake of my sanity, it’s best if you stay fully dressed.”

She ran her tongue along her lip. His gaze followed it, desire licking at his belly. He could almost taste it. Taste her.

He wanted to.

“Come here,” he said.

Without hesitating, she walked toward him. He reached out to touch her hair, her face, her skin soft as silk against his fingers.

“Christ, you’re beautiful.”

“Shut up.”

He grinned. “You don’t like compliments, do you?”

“I like them enough,” she said, her voice soft as he traced her cheek, her jaw, her lips. “It’s just I’m more than a face. I’m me. Not many people see that.”

“I do.”

She swallowed. “I know.”

He slid his palm down her neck, along her shoulder, to her bare arm. Then he curled his hand around her waist and pulled her against him.

She melted into him. A willing victim. No, not a victim, not Grace. She was too strong for that. Steel wrapped in silk.

Her breasts pushed against his bare chest. Just a thin swathe of fabric between them. He could feel the tautness of her nipples. The tightness of his jeans.

She lifted her head up, her gaze on him. Her lips were pink. Slightly open. He was done fighting this, at least for tonight.

He didn’t have the damn resolve. He leaned into kiss her and then…

The sound of vomiting cut through the air. Grace jumped, and the cool reality of their situation washed over him.

They’d talked about this. They both knew it was a bad idea. “I’ll go help her,” he said gruffly. Because Sabrina was his sister. She was his problem. And there was cold water in the bathroom.

He had a feeling he’d need a lot of it splashed against his face to get through the night.

ChapterTen

“Honey,I’m heading out for lunch. Care to join me?”

Grace looked up from her laptop to see her mom framed in the doorway of her office.

“I can’t.” She grimaced, pointing at the files on her desk. “I have to get ready for this afternoon’s meeting.”

Her mom shrugged. “Okay then. But you know what they say about all work and no play.”

“I work for you, so I wouldn’t protest too much,” Grace pointed out, and her mom laughed.

“That’s true. Get on with it. No lunch break for you.”

One reason she was throwing herself into work was so she didn’t think about Friday night. Not that she could stop herself from thinking about it for long. Her face flushed as she remembered how close she and Michael came to kissing.

But then Sabrina had been sick again and Michael had gone to help her, and thank goodness they’d both come to their senses and remembered exactly why this wasn’t a good idea.
