“She was in your office?” He sounded surprised.

“Yeah. She wants me to take her to a gig on Saturday.”

“Where is it?”

“A bar. That’s why she wants me to take her. Presley told her she needs an adult chaperone if she wants to come.”

Michael chuckled. “I guess Presley heard about the party fiasco.”

“I think Presley just knows how uncontrollable she can be. And he’ll be on stage. It’s not exactly conducive to keeping an eye on her.”

“I’m glad you’ll be there. I owe you one.”

“You don’t owe me anything. I’m happy to go. It’ll stop me from staying in and brooding.”

“You’re brooding?”

“I miss you. I already told you that.”

“Yeah. I know that feeling,” he said. “Only a few more days to get through and I’ll be back.”

“How is it over there?”

“Damp. I don’t think it’s stopped raining since I landed. I love London, but I hate the rain.”

“And have you agreed on a price yet?”

“Still trying,” he told her. “But the good news is we’re getting close. If we can get this finished over the next few days, I won’t have to come back to London. Anyway, more importantly, how are you doing? Have you managed to get a partnership going with a vineyard?”

“We’re almost there. Dad’s talking about flying out to have some face-to-face meetings.”

“Won’t you go?”

She cleared her throat. “It’s better if it’s only my dad. With everything that happened with Pascal…” She trailed off. “It doesn’t matter. I don’t want to travel right now, anyway.” A calendar reminder flashed up on her laptop screen, reminding her that she had a board meeting in five minutes. “I’m kind of counting down the hours until you get back, if I’m being honest.”

There was a pause, and she wondered if she’d said too much. But then he chuckled. “You don’t know how happy I am to hear you say that. I’m already planning what I’m going to do to you.”

“And what’s that?”

“All the dirty things. I miss your lips. I miss your body. Most of all, I miss holding you all night.”

“I miss that too,” she whispered.

“When I’m back, I’m going to look for a place of my own. I’m sick of sneaking out to see you. I want to spend time with my girl without worrying about what other people think.”

Her cheeks flushed. “I want that too,” she whispered.

“That’s good.”

Her laptop flashed again. Meeting overdue. “I have to go.”

He groaned. “I do, too. I’ll call you tonight.”

“It’s already your night.”

“I know.”

“You need to sleep,” she told him. “You’ve been burning the candle at both ends.”
