Mario’s brows lift in surprise. “Her half-brother?”

I nod. “We didn’t realise until Judah met with Brielle’s dad, and he confessed to being Emilio’s biological father. It’s a fucking shit show at the moment with the crossing of bloodlines that’s been going on. There are also questions about the fact that Emilio’s younger sister was killed.”

“Are you telling me that Saviatti had her killed?” Mario leans forward now, showing more interest than he was earlier when I was being a worrisome arsehole.

“Well, Brielle had surgery when she was younger, it seems as if the donor came out of nowhere, as if by magic.” I recall the admission she told us when we found her medical records. It certainly was a shock to all of us. I didn’t expect it. Even when I was training her, she’s strong, fast, and her endurance is brilliant for someone who had her surgery.

“Fuck.” Mario’s response mimics ours when we found out. There is still so much to unpack. There are still secrets hidden under layers of fear. Mainly from Emilio Saviatti, Senior.

“It’s been an eye-opening few months, I’ll tell you that.”

“Are you still…?” Mario looks at me, the curiosity is clear in his eyes. He’s the only one outside of the three who knows about my inclinations. And I was honest with him about my love for Valen and Jude. I didn’t hide it from him, and then he told me of his own bisexual nature. It was astounding to me because he never ever hinted it. But then again, neither did I when we were growing up. It’s only when I got older, I knew Mario had seen me with a boy from school. Nothing happened, but there was a quick slip of the wrist.

It was before Jude or Valen became the only men I will have sex with.

“We have come to an agreement, of sorts,” I tack on. “It’s the three of us, and Brielle. She knows. There was no way we couldn’t tell her, so now that she’s been accepted into the family, we’re going to try to live our lives free from the judgement of others, but we will have to keep a lot under wraps.”

Mario nods then because he knows how these things can blow up. It’s difficult when you’re in a heterosexual relationship, but add in another person, and there’s drama that follows with every step of the way.

“I promise you, Kai, your secret is safe with me. It always will be and it always has been. I can’t imagine putting you in any danger, or having a threat on your life because of who you love.”

I know he’s not lying. We were trained so well to watch for tells. Mario has known my secret, and he’s kept it safe all these years. I’m lucky enough to have the support from someone who I’ve looked up to. When I was younger, I wondered what life would be like if I were to ever have fended for myself. If the Erranis didn’t adopt me. I know I wouldn’t still be here. Not with the road I was on.

“I better get back to the party,” I tell him as I recall Judah was planning on testing the allegiance of our girl.

“I’ll be out there shortly.”

I leave Mario to work, and I make my way back to the main area of the house where the guests are still gathered. Most of them are not even more drunk than before. I don’t partake in the alcohol on offer because I’m alert. This isn’t a friendly get together, there are threats in this room. And they would stop at nothing to try their luck.

I find Jude and Val, and I hang beside them to wait until we see Brielle enter the room once more.

“Mario doing okay?” Valen asks me as he glances at me from over his shoulder.

“He is.” I keep my watchful gaze on the door, and when I see her coming down the sweeping staircase, I tug at Jude’s jacket, and we head out into the entrance hall.

She’s carrying a couple of folders, they’re not as big as we thought, which makes it easier to carry. I take them and head out to the car to store them before anyone can ask questions.

Upon my return, there’s an altercation, and I almost step in, but Valen holds me back when he grips my arm. “Wait.”

Judah is having a stare off with some arsehole I’ve never seen before. I’m not sure if he’s only just come up the ranks, but he looks like he’s about to get Judah’s bad side. You do not want that.

“She’s just filthy scum, like her father,” the young man sneers as he looks at Brielle. She looks visibly shaken, and every instinct in my body wants to go to her and save her. I know Valen is feeling much the same, but if we do, it may look strange.

Judah is the one marrying here, and he needs to stand up and protect her. “Oh, and you’d like to know if she’s willing to do anything to become one of the wives of your friends?” Jude’s voice is pure ice.

“I bet she would. Why do you think she’s with you? Unless she has some magical cunt that makes her so irresistible.”

My blood burns through my veins. I’ve known anger before, but this rage that’s currently coursing inside me, swirling like a fucking volcano, is about to erupt.

Judah takes one step forward, towering over the little shit. He keeps his composure, more so than I would. “Hercunt,” he enunciates the word elegantly, and methodically. “Is not something you will ever get to experience. Because she is my fucking princess, and she will be my fucking queen. Am I understood?”

I watch Jude, his hands fisting at his sides. I’m not sure what the next step is here. He’s clearly laid claim, but I don’t see this bastard backing down.

“Why not show us then?” The challenge is set between them. I doubt Jude will do it, but I’ve seen worse things happen at these parties.

Suddenly, he grips Brielle at the back of the neck, and he pulls her against him. His front to her back. And I watch as his left hand snakes under the slit of her dress. Valen chose the outfit well.

“You want to watch me punish her for being the daughter of a lying bastard?” Judah throws back the challenge. The corner of his mouth tilts when his hand stops. I’m pretty sure he’s found our little princess wet.
