Antonio was my protector for years, and after everything I've been through, I just want to see him again. I can only hope he'll forgive me, after the horrible things I said to him. The horrible things Thad made me say.

“Can you just tell him I’m outside his old apartment in Orlando-” I sniffle, but I’m cut off by her hanging up. Swiping at my tears, feeling stupid for thinking I could do this. Thinking I could make it out.

I was almost free, but I’m not made to be alone. I can’t do this alone…

“Who just called?” I ask, as Monica smirks at Anton’s phone. “Sapphire?” I ask because I heard her say that name.

“None of your business,” she growls, and I glare at her. I really hope every ounce of hatred I feel for her is reflected in my eyes. “Jeez, yes. Here,” she sneers, chucking the phone at me.

“Fuck,” I snap, and I nearly miss it. I watch as she flounces off to the shower, where Anton is. I shake my head at the crazy bitch.

“Hello?” the voice of an older man says when I call the last number back.

“Hi, uh, sorry, I’m looking for Sapphire,” I say, as my mind races wondering why this guy is answering her phone.

“Ah, well, I’ve already gotten into my cab, but I handed her some cash outside the Ocean Lane apartments. She looked rather distressed-”

“Fuck,” I hang up, if he’s no longer with Sapphire, he’s useless.

Instead, I call my brother.

“Sup.” I flip my old ass phone open, answering after just one ring. I’m between clients right now, so I’ve got some free time to work on the piece I’ve been struggling to perfect for weeks.

“I need you to do something for me.” My brother Isaiah sounds stressed, which is rare for a man who is usually very chill. Jer is the basket case. Our mother fucked all of us up in different ways.

“Okay?” I say, waiting for him to go on.

“I don’t know if you remember Anton’s stepsister, but she’s in some kind of trouble. I don’t know the full story, but she’s in Orlando looking for her brother. She’s got no phone, and minimal money, from the sound of things.” He pauses, letting those words sink in. And they do. They sound all too familiar, in fact.

“Fuck,” I grunt, putting my sketch pad down.

“Exactly. She’s outside the old apartment. Can you pick her up, and then have her call back? Anton is still in the fucking shower with Monica, or I’d just go in there and drag him out.” My lip curls at the mention of Anton’s latest girl. She’s insufferable, and honestly such a bitch. Why the fuck he's with a girl like her, I'll never understand.

“Yeah, I’ll be there in five.” I hang up, grab my keys, and head for the parlor doors. Jer notices and jumps to his feet, following me.

“Where you headed?”

“Remember Anton’s stepsister, Sapphire? I guess something happened because she’s here looking for her brother,” I say, and he frowns.

“She didn’t know he moved?” my twin asks, and I shrug.

“Guess not.”

“Is this another Bethal situation?” Jer asks, his face clouding with anger.

“Seems like it.”
