Cooper has school today, so once I drop him off at the unholy hour of eight-thirty in the morning, I’ll be focusing on the other two.

Bellamy is going to be a pain in my ass.

“Oh! You’re the new nanny?” Cooper’s first-grade teacher asks as she looks me over, and nervous energy flows off her in waves. Oh, she likes Milo. She’s sizing me up and comparing herself to me.

I had considered her for Clay, but I hadn’t realized there was a pre-established desire for Mr. Evans.

“Hi, nice to meet you. Yes, I am.” I tip my head as Coop dashes off toward the playground beyond the school’s fence. “Say, do you think we could schedule a little meeting for next week? I’ll let Mr. Evans know, if you’re available?” I stick with honorifics, hopefully setting her at ease. I’m not after your maybe-man.

“Oh, yes. I’ll-I’ll send home an official notice!” she agrees, and I chuckle. That was too easy. Now to just find a reason for me to cancel.

Since it’s been about three days, and I still haven’t met Clay, I head home. He’s got a studio built into his bedroom, but from what I understand, he’s also got an entire studio and gallery set up, where he sells his art. His commissions sell for fifty thousand, which is pretty dang impressive.

I walk through the front door, taking my coat off and cringing a bit because the music is loud as fudge.

My eyebrows shoot up when I hear a man singing so loud his voice reaches me from down the hall. That’s definitely Clay’s room. Here goes nothing, Cupid.

I adjust my turtleneck sweater dress. Today it’s black, thank you very much. But I did pair it with nude leggings and my knee-high pink boots. My boots stand out wonderfully, and I love them. But I wanted to make sure I wasn’t flashing all my goodies today when I met Clay.

As I approach his room, the singing and music only get louder. When I reach his door, I stand and stare. You’d stare, too, if you just walked in on a naked man singing as he paints. Don’t ask what he’s painting because all I see are ass cheeks. Gloriously toned ass cheeks.

I think I make a squeak, because Clay spins around, and bless Eros, at least he’s wearing an apron. I can’t see his dick, and that’s both a blessing and a curse.

No ogling your charges, True!

“Oh, hey there, you must be True!” Clay grabs something and lifts his hand, his music cutting off immediately. The silence is louder than the music was because I think he short-circuited my brain.

“Yes,” is all I manage to croak, my mouth suddenly dry. Okay, first day I get off, I’m going to that club to get my flirt on. I’m much too thirsty if I’m checking Clay out.

“It’s nice to meet you.” He smiles brightly, and I manage to snap out of my daze. Barely.

Instead of a greeting, I blurt, “Where are your clothes?” Real professional. This is the man who thrives off attention, True. Get your shit together.

“Oh, I…” His smile falls as his eyes drop to his own nakedness. “That was unintentional. I got out of the shower and had an idea, so I ran in here. I forgot I was naked.” He pauses and seems to mull over his words. “That probably sounds like a load of crap, but I swear, I didn’t know you’d be here. I wasn’t planning this,” he rushes to say as he walks to the side, never turning away from me, and grabs a discarded towel.

“Got so inspired that you forgot pants, huh?” I joke, and he blushes.

“I realize how suspicious that sounds.”

“Eh. No harm done. I’ll leave you to it. It was nice to meet you, Clay.” I give a little wave and pull his door closed behind me, shaking off the shock.

It’s been two weeks. I have made no valuable difference for any of them, except Cooper, that is. The meeting I set up with Coop’s teacher was a failure. Milo didn’t even blink in her direction, so the longing was entirely one-sided.

The secretary was giving off fuck me vibes but nothing more, and that’s not what he needs. As I pace my room, I don’t know what the hell to do next for Milo. He resists all attempts to get him to flirt. It’s maddening.

Tonight, Cooper’s grandmother is picking him up for a sleepover. She was a single mother to Clay and Milo and did the best she could. Now the two men take care of her.

She lives close by and is finally back in town after a three-month vacation. When she said she needed some grandson time, no one could resist her. Least of all Milo, who adores her. She’s a good woman. Shit taste in men, though.

I technically get the weekends off from my Nanny part of this gig, but I spent the first two creating a bond with Cooper. Not that it was hard, the kid thinks I’m a fairy.

Well, tonight Bellamy is working at his club, and Clay has convinced his brother to go out with him. I wasn’t given a formal invite, but Bellamy mentioned it. Since my real job is making them fall in love, I kind of have to go.
