The party started not too long ago, and I watch her sitting beside Griff, smiling and laughing. All I can think about is dragging her upstairs and locking her in my room.

I agreed to help Sadie tonight, thinking if Rose saw me with her, she’d think we were together. Now, I want no part of it, but I can’t do that to Sadie.

She’s desperate to make the guys jealous. Will seeing me with Sadie make Rose jealous? Why does the idea of that turn me on?

I’m so fucked. The truth is, if Holden hadn’t been in the room earlier, I would have probably agreed to anything Rose wanted.

But Holden didn’t spend years resisting her for Nash and me to cave after two days.

She said she wouldn’t ask us to fuck her again…fuck, I hope that was a lie.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Shameless” by Camila Cabello

ROSE

I watch the most stunning redhead I have ever seen strut right up to Griff and plop down in his lap. Since he’s sitting beside me, her legs bump mine.

“Hi, I’m Sadie.” She lifts her hand up to me, and I switch my beer from one hand to the other so we can shake. Her skin is soft as hell.

“I’m Rose. What kind of lotion do you use? Your skin is softer than velvet,” I giggle. Randomly complimenting a stranger? Oh, I’m drunk. Which is nice since the guys tried to kill my buzz earlier.

“Oh, this wonderful lavender stuff my mom makes… I’ll bring you some. So, how’s life been, living with these assholes?” she asks, patting her heavenly hand on Griff’s shoulder. His response is to pinch her side, making her squeal.

“Hey! Rude! I am a perfect gentleman,” Griff insists as Fallon walks over, sits on Griff’s other side, and yanks Sadie off his best friend’s lap, so she’s sitting on the couch between the two men. She grumbles, leaning back, so she can see me around Griff’s big shoulders.

“Men,” she mouths, rolling her eyes. “Jeez, Daddy, do you have to be such a jerk? I was comfortable.” Sadie shoves Fallon, and my mind melts. Did she just call Fallon Daddy?

“Yes. You know better. Neither of us is fucking you. Stop trying,” Fallon snarks, making Sadie pout. She seems entirely unfazed by Fallon’s rejection. Aren’t they stepsiblings? What is happening?

“You say that a lot for a man that ate me out in the locker— Mmmhhh…” Her words trail off when Fallon clamps a hand over her mouth, and Griff chuckles. His eyes are glued to the TV, but he’s obviously paying attention.

“One of these fucking days, Sadie, I swear to fuck…” Fallon’s anger would be enough to scare me, but Sadie has this mischievous twinkle in her eyes. Oh, I like her. I like her a lot.

“If you don’t want her, I’ll take her!” I announce. I jump off my seat and hold a hand out to my new best friend. “Let's go get refills.” She beams at me as she takes my hand, and I lead her toward the kitchen.

“You’re fun! Most girls despise me just because I’ve been best friends with Griff and Fallon for the last fifteen years.” Sadie pouts, but I get the feeling she doesn’t care all that much about being liked.

“So. Best friends, huh?” I lift a brow, and she shrugs. “You call your stepbrother Daddy?” I prompt, and she throws her head back and laughs.

“It’s not as salacious as you might think… When we were eight, I convinced them to play house. I was Mommy, and Fallon was Daddy. I call Griff Daddy sometimes cuz it pisses Fallon off. He wants me to think he’s above it all, but just wait till later. I’ll climb in Griff’s lap, call him Daddy, and Fallon will haul me off to his bed,” she sighs wistfully. “Of course, all he’ll do is bury me under a mountain of blankets and force me to sleep. But…when he gets all growly? Fuck…”

My eyes wander over to Holden. Sadie must catch me staring because she bumps me.

“He’s your stepbrother, right?”

“Our parents got married when we were sixteen,” I say, not sure why that's important for her to know, but it is.

“Oh…well, he’s cute as fuck.” Her words have my hackles rising, but I just shrug.

“Is he?” I ask, making her chuckle.

“Yeah. But you already know that, don’t you.” She lifts her brow in a way that suggests she sees right through me. “I met Griff first. We were five. His best friend was this broody, angry boy. Even at five. My dad married his mom when we were six. The attitude is all a front, though. He’s never hurt a living soul in his life.” As we sip our new drinks, Sadie’s eyes wander back to the couch. She frowns, making me look over to see what's got her looking so bothered.

“Oh,” I say as a perky girl acts uninterested in the attention Griff is giving her, but we can all see her smirk.

“Yeah.” Her sigh says more than words. The hurt in her eyes says the rest.
