“You want sweet, mustard, or vinegar barbeque sauce with that?”

“Can I have one sweet and one vinegar?” I ask.

“Sure thing.”

She loads my choices on a paper plate and sets it on my tray.

“There’s unsweetened and sweet tea at the end of the counter. Enjoy.”

I thank her, grab a Styrofoam cup of sweet tea, and sit down with Joanna at one of the large dining tables.

Morris and Clay join us shortly after.

Taking the seat beside me, Morris looks down at my tray.

“You should have gone for the brisket,” he says.

“It was a hard choice,” I tell him.

He takes his fork and cuts into the meat on his plate and extends it to me.

“That’s okay,” I say.

“No, ma’am, it’s not. You have to try it.”

I lean over and take the offered bite.

It’s so good and tender. It practically melts in my mouth.

“Oh my God,” I moan.

He grins. “Good, right?”

“It’s incredible,” I admit.

Scooter slams a tray down on the table. “Zoey, that was fucking incredible today. I had so much fun, and one of the snowboarders taught me how to absorb bumps on rougher terrain. It was awesome.”

Pride slides through me at his excitement.

“I’m glad you enjoyed it. Langford said they wouldn’t start blowing snow until the second week of November, so you guys can use it for a few more weeks.”

“I want to learn some advanced somersaults. Do you think you and I can have some one-on-one time this week?” Joanna asks.

“Sure,” I tell her.

“I want in on that action,” Morris says.

I cut my eyes to him. “I’ve seen you do somersaults,” I say.

“Yeah, but I want to learn that one-sixty into a rollover somersault you’re so good at,” he informs.

“We need a bigger jump for that,” I say.

“Damn.”

“Don’t worry; once there’s snow on the ground, we’ll build some advanced jumps, and I’ll teach it to you,” I promise.

“They’ll come in handy on the bunny slopes,” Scooter teases.
