I place the marshmallow through the grate, into the flames of the small fire, until it is black.

“You’re burning it!” she exclaims as she pulls at my arm.

“Stop it, woman. That’s how I like my marshmallows and my hot dogs.”

“Incinerated?”

“No, extra crispy.”

She opens the top of the tin box and pulls out two dark cookies. She places a Kiss in the middle of one and holds them out to me.

I frown at her.

“What? I don’t have chocolate bars or graham crackers.”

I bring my eyes to hers.

“You haven’t lived until you’ve had a scorching marshmallow with a melting Kiss on a ginger snap. Trust me,” she says.

I lean into her until our lips are a hairbreadth from touching. “A melting Kiss, huh?”

She grins. “Or a melting marshmallow and a scorching Kiss.”

“Now, you’re just teasing me,” I accuse.

I add my marshmallow to the top of the Kiss, and she smooshes it together with another ginger snap.

Cocking an eyebrow, she offers the sandwiched treat to me.

I take a bite.

“Well?” she asks.

“Delicious.”

She takes a bite herself and moans. “Oh my God, so good.”

I reach up and swipe at a dollop of melted chocolate on her chin and lick it from my fingertip.

She swallows, and I watch as the pulse at her throat quickens.

“Can I have another bite?” I ask.

She nods and holds the cookie sandwich out to me.

I lean in and nip at her wrist.

She drops the treat to the floor, and I cup her neck with my left hand and pull her lips to mine.

Icome to my damn senses and let go of her.

I scoot backward, but she follows and climbs into my lap. Her knees slide to the sides of my thighs and rest on the rug beneath us.

My hands settle on her hips.

“Zoey.” I breathe her name as I lean back and try to create some distance between her and my growing erection.
