“We’ll have to invite you both to dinner at the castle,” I say, while we gather our things and get ready to leave. The room goes silent. My parents’ faces drop and Kai runs his fingers down the back of my arm. “What? Did I say something wrong?”

“They can’t, Love. Since both Celeste and Azazel are technically spirits, where they don’t have bodies, they can’t leave Limbo. Really, the only two places they can exist without consequences are Heaven or Limbo. They’ve been gone for so long that should they step into a place where time doesn’t stand still, they’ll–”

“Become poltergeists,” I say, finishing the thought for him.

“Yes… However, Azazel has accepted my father’s offer to run Heaven. He propositioned him before we went to war in case of his death. The angels know him and respect him. It’s a good fit. As I understand, Belphegor is going to go with them as well.”

“And we’ll only be a portal away. You’ll be free to move between realms and can visit us there anytime or we can return here to this cabin,” Celeste says, reaching for my hand. “I promise. I want to get to know my daughter, and I’ve already missed so much. I don’t plan to miss more.”

I nod, looking at my aunt who’s fighting off tears at saying goodbye. “I’m so glad you’re both doing well,” she says, nodding way too enthusiastically. My uncle pulls her close, trying to keep her together.

“One last thing before we go. I plan to have Allister visit you, Elise. You mentioned Nora, a vampire you’re friends with who sits on The Faction council, a mortal reaper. She’s technically not tethered to a realm, so I’ll have him teach her how to jump realms. That way, anytime you wish to visit Alice, she can bring you. And should we all wish to get together again, we can set it up.”

Elise smiles, tears pouring freely down her cheeks. “That would be lovely.” She says, holding her hands to her chest.

We say our goodbyes and Allister meets us to return my aunt and uncle to Earth, just in time for me to catch the blood seeping through Kai’s shirt. “We’re done,” I say, demanding he take us home. “You’re bleeding. We’re going home.”

“I’ve been bleeding for a while, Alice,” Kai breathes, swallowing hard. He drops the glamor he’s been using to hide the fact his shirt is soaked through. I lift it to find his stitches torn.

“I told you it was too soon. You promised,” I snap as Belphegor and a couple of the other fallen meet us in the hall.

“I know what I said, but you didn’t see how happy you looked.”

One of the fallen angels teleport us back to Hell Hold, and jog off to get the healers. “How happy do you think I’m going to be if my husband dies? Hmm?”

His eyes roll as his head swims. It takes a moment for his gaze to fall back on me. “I’m not going to die,” he growls.

Asmo steps into the foyer, likely having come from the library. “You’re both insufferable.”

Kai chuckles as I close my eyes, my lips pulling into a smile. “Insufferable indeed.”

Epilogue: Alice

Six months later…

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Kai asks, kissing down my chest. “It’s not too late to back out.”

I tip his face up to mine, kissing him deep before I push off his lap. “I’m sure.” My arms loop into my shirt, and I make quick work of the buttons. “Everyone deserves love, and Asmo specifically deserves his happily ever after. Granted, I know it doesn’t have to be soulmate love for one to be happy, but something tells me that man won’t give it a go unless it is. He’s set in his ways, believing this is it for him, but I’m not so certain. You father split his soul to make you, the least I can do is the same.”

Kai stands, brushing my hair off my neck, and begins to place sucking kisses down the length of my throat. “Hmm, look at my wife, the matchmaker. You’re pretty hot when you’re passionate about something.”

“As much as I love when you talk dirty, I’m going to get even hotter,” I wiggle my fingers, ensuring he understands that I’m talking about my flames, “if you don’t get dressed. I don’t want to miss my appointment in Limbo, and seeing as I can’t teleport, I need you to go with me.”

He smirks as I grab his shirt and toss it at him, my eyes lingering at the jagged scar that runs down the length of his abs. “Forever codependent.”

I scoff as he grins, shrugging his shirt. Before I can snap my mouth shut, his hand grips my chin and he crushes his mouth to mine. “You’re the Queen of Hell. They’ll wait, and they’ll like it, because if they don’t, their king will have words.”

My eyes meet his from beneath my lashes. “We’re going.”

When we arrive in Limbo, the space is quieter than I remember. Kai leads me down the hall toward a room that houses a machine Lucifer built while he walked this realm. It’s massive, taking up most of the room, and a large point juts out from above the control panel.

“Are you sure this is safe?” I ask as Belphegor, my grandfather, enters the room.

“Safe as it gets. We might have made it with the intention of splitting one soul, but since we’ve done hundreds. It’s how we’ve made up for the soul shortage. It doesn’t harm the soul, only duplicates another. It won’t run forever. There’s only so much magic and power left within it from God’s hand, but for now it’s fixed our problem.”
