A grin spreads across my face. “I can do that. I didn’t even know books like that existed. We don’t have anything like those in the Solarian library.”

Sebastian chuckles, the sound warm and genuine. “That’s because they’re likely deemed salacious.”

I twist in his arms to face him. The lantern light flickers across his face, casting shadows that only enhance his striking features.

“I wasn’t sure what kind of books you’d like,” he says, holding me close. “As I went hunting for them, I realized I never asked.”

My heart swells inside my chest. He took the time to think about what I like, to understand me. Just like he did the night he showed me the dragons...

“Yet you managed to choose these perfectly.” I loop my arms around his neck and start to play with his hair.

Sebastian’s lips tug into a knowing smirk, his tall figure towering over me. “I’m glad you like them.” He gathers my hair in his hand, wrapping the length around his fist. Gently, he tugs my head back and bends, putting his lips an inch from mine. “Tell me to stop and I will.”

I don’t speak. I can’t. Slowly, I shake my head no.

Our lips meet, and the world seems to fade into obscurity, leaving us suspended in time. My heart hammers in my chest and magic thrums beneath my skin. His warm hand trails up the back of my neck, leaving fire in its wake as he holds me entirely at his mercy. Every nerve ending is awake and alive, attuned to his slightest movement, but I’m helpless. I want this. I want him. I want it all.

Kissing him steals away my ability to think or reason. It’s toe-curling, and the kind that awakens every dormant sensation within me. His mouth moves with a confident finesse, a dance of lips that speaks a thousand words.

My body bows against his, fighting to stay upright. My knees are weak, my lungs breathless, and there’s not a single part of me that doesn’t feel the humming in my veins. I’m not sure if it’s my mage magic, drawn by the connection we share, or the bond taking root, but I feel it everywhere.

His warmth seeps into my very being, erasing the boundaries between us. The very taste of him is intoxicating in itself, leaving me dizzy and wanting more. Our bodies press closer, his fingers still tangled in my hair. It sends shivers down my spine.

I respond in kind, my hands finding their way to his broad shoulders, my nails grazing his skin as the kiss deepens, fueled by a hunger that’s been ignited.

My hands roam across the planes of his back, relishing the feel of his muscles tensing beneath his skin. Every point of contact ignites a yearning that only he can satisfy.

“Oh, little lamb,” Sebastian breathes, pulling away just enough for our eyes to lock. His thumb strokes across my bottom lip. “What am I going to do with you?”

I laugh breathlessly, unsure how to answer such a question. “I don’t know.” My cheeks flush with warmth and he nuzzles my jaw.

“I’m not sure when it happened, but somehow you resurrected a part of me I wasn’t sure existed anymore.” The words hang heavy in the air, his admission stirring something deep within me.

Without hesitation, I lean forward to capture his lips with mine, kissing him hard enough to knock him off balance. He falls back and his hands catch us before he hits the ground. I squeal, landing half-straddling him.

Sebastian links his hands behind his head. “I’m fairly certain you’ve just been looking for an excuse to be on top of me,” he teases, his voice low and seductive.

“And if I was?” I challenge, my fingers trailing down his bare chest as I savor the feel of him beneath me.

“Then have at it, princess. Your wish is my command.”

“Too bad I don’t have your shadows. I’d quite like to see you all knotted up and at my mercy,” I taunt, echoing words he once said to me. His wicked smile tells me he remembers them, too.

“Is that right?” His eyes darken with desire as he lifts his hips, grinding himself into my center. I moan, unable to resist the pleasure that courses through me. Sebastian bites his lower lip, his abs flexing as he does it again, hands still trapped beneath his head.

“You don’t need to tie me up,” he says teasingly. “Unlike you, I listen when I’m told to do something.”

“Is that so?” I challenge, my fingertips tracing the curve of his jaw, down his neck, and across his broad shoulders. I lean closer, putting my face directly above his. “Prove it.”

A wicked grin spreads across Sebastian’s face as he says, “Anything for you.” His voice is low, sultry, and so full of promise.

I let my hands wander across his chest, trailing my fingers lower, and following the lines of his abs. He sucks in a sharp breath, but otherwise remains motionless beneath me. It’s thrilling to see such a strong man lay himself bare, allowing me to take control without question.

Unable to resist any longer, I lean down and capture his lips with mine, tasting the hunger and need coursing through him. I slowly make my way down his jawline, nipping and sucking at the sensitive skin. Each little gasp and moan he lets slip only spurs me on, igniting a fire within me that threatens to consume us both.

“Scarlet,” he groans, his voice rough with desire, “you have no idea how much I want you right now.”

“Maybe I do,” I tease, shifting my hips back so I can undo his pants.
