"Can we feed the animals now?" She tugs on my hand, eager to continue our adventure as she’s spotted a petting zoo where you also get to feed the animals.

"Sure thing, sweetheart." We buy a bag of food and start feeding the goats and pigs.

"Good job feeding them," I say.

"Thanks, Daddy!" She grins, her cheeks flushed with happiness.

We spend two hours at the zoo, then it’s time to move on if we’re to make the museum before we have to head back home for Carmen’s nap. It’s all right if we get back a few minutes late, but I don’t want to disrupt her schedule entirely. At least we can have lunch while we’re out.

"Ready for the children's museum?" I ask, and she nods excitedly. “Great, let’s grab a hot dog and then we will head over. It’s just around the corner from here so we don’t even have to drive.

We munch our hot dogs as we walk toward the zoo exit, Carmen exclaiming, “Yummy, yummy,” every few bites, making me laugh. Minutes later we enter the museum for an exhibition that promises “to make famous fairy tales come alive as you walk through each scene.”

We start with The Three Little Pigs and Carmen’s surprise and happiness at actually being able to touch the pigs’ houses while the story is being told and have virtual interactions with the pigs.

When we get to story number three, however, Carmen starts getting grumpy as she’s getting tired.

"All right, let's head home," I decide, and Carmen falls asleep on our way home in the car.

"Sleep sweetly, little one," I whisper, grateful for this unforgettable day with my daughter. My thoughts drift toward Maddie, wondering if she’s feeling any better. Whatever she has, I hope the rest of us won’t catch it.

Gently, I lay Carmen down in her cozy bed, pulling the soft covers up to her chin. As she snuggles into her pillow, a peaceful smile graces her face. I brush a stray curl from her forehead, my heart swelling with love for my little girl.

"Good night, sweetheart," I whisper, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead before leaving her room.

My thoughts turn to Maddie, and I decide to check out how she’s doing,

I find myself outside Maddie's bedroom door, gently pushing it open in case she’s asleep. My breath catches in my throat as I see her standing there in nothing but her underwear, her body illuminated by the soft glow of the afternoon sun.

"Roland!" Maddie gasps, shock registering on her face as she hastily tries to grab the duvet off the bed to cover herself. Of course, the duvet is massive, and it takes some time for her to get it off.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to..." I say, ready to turn around and leave but somehow I seem unable to tear my eyes away from her. My brain screams at me to turn around and leave, but I seem unable to move as she finally manages to pull the duvet up to cover herself.

We stare at each other.

I swallow and try to speak, then swallow again. “I, umm, just wanted to check in on you,” I say. “How are you feeling?”

“Better, it seems sleep did wonders for my throat.”

“I’m happy to hear it,” I reply, still unable to move or tear my gaze away from her. Jeez, what is it with this woman? I’ve slept with plenty of women, and none had this effect on me.

"Well, if you’re going to come in and have a chat, maybe do so properly.”

There’s a challenge in her voice and I turn around to close the door behind me, then walk over to Maddie, looking her deep in the eyes. In them, I see the same desire I feel. I cup her face in my hands and kiss her passionately.

She responds immediately with a moan.

After a while, I stop to catch my breath. “We shouldn’t do this,” I say hoarsely.

“No,” agrees Maddie, “we shouldn’t. But as we’re already doing it, maybe we should continue?” Her eyes twinkle with mirth and lust.

“Fuck it,” I say and push her onto the bed, following after her. “If you don’t have any objections, neither do I.”

“Well,” she says, “but you might get a sore throat.”

“Shut up and kiss me,” I reply, and she does.
