"Omigod," Brianna laughed, pointing towards the walkway from the beach to the house. All eyes turned to see Julian's pale white skin saunter up the path, completely naked. He used his hands to cover his manhood.

"What happened to you?" Maverick teased.

"She kicked me out." Laughter roared through the group. "Can I crash here?

"All the rooms are full," I answered. "But the couch is yours, buddy."

"Wait," Harper whispered, turning to me. "The couch?" I pulled her onto my lap and was slightly surprised when she didn't put up a fight.

"Yes, the couch." I slid my hand over her bare thighs. "Where else would he sleep?"

"Wasn't he originally supposed to stay here?"

I rolled my eyes. Now Harper thought she was taking his room. I shrugged, not willing to answer.

"He can have my room. I'll take the couch."

"You're not sleeping on the couch."

"Christian, that couch is better than what I was sleeping on in the trailer. I'll be fine."

"It has nothing to do with that. Look around." I gestured to all the drunk guys running around stupidly. "I'm not taking the chance of some drunk fool getting stupid and you getting hurt in the process." I paused for a moment as a thought popped into my head. "But you can share a bed with me, and he can have your room."

Her lips pressed into a thin line as her gaze locked on mine before finally agreeing. "You can have my room, Julian," Harper said, standing from my lap.

"Hey, we are all headed down to the pier," Link called from the beach. "Y'all coming?"

"Nope," I said, standing and swooping Harper over my shoulder. "We are going to bed." She burst into a fit of laughter.

Chapter 27

Christian

I sat on the second-floor balcony watching the activities on the beach while I waited for Harper to move her things into my room. While my eyes focused solely on the beach, my mind dwelled on Harper in my bed with me tonight. We'd only shared a bed once, and she'd been too drunk to even know which bed she was in.

"All done," she said, falling into the chair next to mine. "You didn't want to hang out with your friends tonight?"

"I've spent every spring break with them since I was a kid. I'm where I want to be." She shivered, wrapping her arms around herself, and I stood, grabbing a blanket and wrapping it around her. She pulled her feet into the chair, covering most of herself. "I thought we could talk."

"What do you want to talk about?" she asked, avoiding eye contact and nervously chewing on her bottom lip. She busied herself with adjusting the blanket tighter around her. She was uneasy about sharing a bed with me. On the beach, it didn't seem to faze her, but now alone, she was anxious.

"I want to make sure you are comfortable sharing a bed with me," I said. "We don't have to do anything you don't want to."

"I'm not nervous about sharing a bed with you." She sighed. "I trust you."

"Then what is it?" I narrowed my eyes.

"I feel like this is all going to blow up in my face," she said. "I'm terrified of what Noah will do if I have to go back there."

"Harper, listen to me; you will never go back to the south side. I meant that. I don't know what will happen with us yet, but you will never go back to Noah, and I will kill Noah if he comes after you again."

"I don't want to ruin this," she whispered. "I've never had anyone who cared whether I had a clean place to sleep or food to eat." She shrugged. "And I just don't want to do something that's going to screw this up, but I also don't want to cause trouble for any of you either."

"Harper." I scooted forward in my chair. "I promise that if you need me, I'll be there no matter what." Grabbing her chin, I forced her to look at me. "Even ten years from now, if some asshole isn't treating you right and you need me to come to get you, I will." She smiled. "You will never be hungry again. You will never not have a safe place to sleep again."

She leaned forward, dropped the blanket, closed her eyes, and softly kissed me. Every part of my being wanted to grab her and pull her onto me, deepen the kiss, tear off her clothes, and make her mine, but this was her moment, and I'd let her have it.

Pulling away, she stood, placing her hands on my shoulders; she slid onto my lap, straddling me and curling her legs underneath her.
