He bands his arms tightly around my waist, lifting my feet off the ground as we devour one another, my fingers clawing at his hair. Teeth clash, tongues tangle, and ecstasy tingles through my veins.

“Of all the times for you to be fucking each other, I don’t think now is the one. Do you?”

Fuck.

The way Gray blinks his eyes open at me matches mine. We were so caught up in each other, we didn’t even hear the door open. But that’s definitely Emmett, Ryker, and Axel standing in the doorway with exasperated looks on their faces.

I stroke my fingers through Gray’s blond hair before pressing a final chaste kiss on his lips. Slowly, he lowers me to the floor with a soft smile and a pleased gleam in his eyes. Not at all what you would expect from someone who was just denied some fun, but my brain can’t decipher what it is that is making him happy.

The others move into the room and shut the door behind them as I reluctantly take a step back from Gray. Catching sight of my hands, I instantly remember the blood coating my skin, but instead of sinking in my emotions again, I stand taller with my shoulders rolled back and my chin raised.

“That’s my girl,” Axel murmurs. He’s the first of the new arrivals to approach me with a smile, despite the tension radiating from him. He stops right in front of me and tucks a loose tendril of hair behind my ear, his eyes attempting to say so much despite the silence coming from him.

My cheeks feel warm under his intense gaze, but he steps away, letting Emmett take his spot.

“You don’t know how relieved I am to be standing in front of you right now, Snowflake,” Emmett says, his hand capturing my throat as he rests his forehead on mine. It’s like they’re now taking a moment to feel the relief of my return since we were interrupted outside.

I breathe Emmett in, just as he does me, before his lips ghost my cheek in a delicate kiss. Ryker quickly replaces him, dragging his eyes over every inch of me as if he’s committing every mark on my skin and stain on my clothes to memory.

“We will retaliate for this, Scarlett.” Ryker’s tone is clipped, angry, and his brows furrow in a swarm of emotions. “I will burn every inch of this damn town to the ground to find where they’re located then slaughter every single one of them. Devil’s Brutes be damned; they don’t know the true strength of the Ruthless.”

My adrenaline pounds ferociously through my veins as I absorb his words. The promise of blood and chaos is just another way of giving me those three particular words that Gray murmured. I was definitely made for them.

“It sounds like a date.” The corner of my mouth tips up as he musters a half grin in response before capturing my lips with his. It’s over far too quickly as he leans back, and the four of them form a circle with me.

“Before we get you cleaned up and taken care of, we need to discuss the absolute mind fuck that’s outside,” Emmett states, tainting the moment with the reality of life, and I sigh.

“Did they say anything after I left with Gray?” I ask, instantly beginning to calculate my next move as I always do.

“Declan grinned like the Cheshire fucking cat, and Graham acted confused. Asked us what you meant by teaching you everything you know.”

Fucker, of course he did.“What did you say?”

Axel shrugs. “I said I had no idea what you were talking about either.”

Relieved, I sigh. “Good, that’s good. We can use this to our advantage if they think you don’t know who I truly am.”

“What are you saying?” Gray asks, shuffling his feet so they’re shoulder-width apart as he stares intently at me.

“Graham taught me how to kill until my eighth birthday, then my father deemed me worthy and took over my training himself. He knows who I am, but I don’t think he ever learned I was the Grim Reaper, just like Kincaid.”

Axel paces while Emmett’s nostrils flare angrily at the reminder of my past.

“How do you know he doesn’t think you’re the Grim Reaper?” Ryker asks, hands on his hips as the wheels turn in his head, the leader in him considering the facts from every angle.

“Because only two people knew, other than those dead at my hands—my father Freddie, and his bestie...” I say mockingly before wetting my parched lips and dropping the name that I know will cause problems. “Billy. Billy Weaver.”

All sets of eyes whirl in my direction, but there’s a hint of expectation and understanding from Axel after our heart to heart.

“That’s why you took him out at the same time as Banner,” Ryker pieces it together.

Axel clears his throat, sensing my internal stress as he responds, “There’s more to it than that, Brother, but he fucking deserved it regardless of the details.”

I want to kiss him. I want to throw myself at him once more and feel his arms around me, but I’m unsure whether it was a one time thing or not, so I remain rooted to the spot instead, mouthing my thanks as the others accept that small snippet of information.

I’m sure they would love to know more, their hearts and minds demanding it, but respectfully and surprisingly they redirect the conversation.

“So, we need to figure out how we want to play this shit with Graham, Declan, and their chapter,” Emmett grunts, and Gray waves his hand in the air enthusiastically.
