“Be specific,” I mumble. “Maggie, give me something you want to do.”

“I don’t kn—”

“Now, Mom,” Gray interjects, his tone sharp but not harsh.

“I want to go to the diner and see my friends. Friday night would work,” she mutters, like she doesn’t want to admit it out loud.

Gray nods. “Done. I will personally drive you there if you would like, pick your drunk ass up and bring you home, and even take you out for the day so you can buy something cute to wear or some shit. Deal?”

Maggie pauses for a beat. “Thank you, Gray,” she breathes, cutting the distance to her son to plant a kiss on his cheek, but he doesn’t take his eyes off me.

“Show. Me. Your. Neck.”

I wet my parched lips, my throat as dry as the Sahara desert as I shake my head. “Come and look for yourself.” I tilt my head down so my chin touches my chest. I hear the scrape of his chair along the floor, before seeing a blur of his legs as he breezes past me, and I feel his hands on my shoulders.

“When did you get this?”

“Last night.”

“Does anyone else have it?”

“Not yet.”

I’m pent up with anticipation, trying to read his body language even though he’s behind me. His voice is almost croaky, which makes me think he likes it, but I can’t be sure.

The hand that wraps around my throat a second later has me on pins as he lifts me to my feet and spins me on the spot. Our eyes zero in on each other immediately, and I find his wider than I’ve ever seen them before.

“I fucking love you, Scarlett,” he whispers before crushing his lips to mine.

My hands fly to his bare chest, his fingers digging into my hips at my waist as he shows me with his mouth just how much he means those words.

Holy shit.

He tears his lips from mine all too quickly, but before I can protest, his hands are at the back of my thighs, and my stomach hits his shoulder a moment later. He’s carrying me from the room before I can contemplate which way is up, but he turns to the right instead of going left to the rooms, placing me on the prez’s booth table in one swift move.

His eyes are wild. I widen my thighs, and he steps between them, claiming my lips once again as he cups the back of my neck, feeling the dried ink on my skin.

“Why aren’t we in your room right now?” I mumble between panting and kissing him, clawing my nails into his flesh as I crave every ounce of him.

“Too far,” he grunts. “I just needed to be away from my mother. I wasn't thinking,” he adds, words stilted as he continues to press his lips all over my face and down my neck, making my back arch with pleasure.

I rasp a chuckle from my lips, my skin heating from his touch as I ready myself to fuck it all to hell and take his dick here and now, when the door swings open. The noise doesn’t stop us, the irritation just flickering beneath my skin at the sound, but the words that travel through the air next halt us.

“Please, Kincaid. You promised me.”

I blink up at Gray through the sex-induced fog, but he’s glancing toward the booth by the double doors that lead in from the outside.

I’d know that voice anywhere. It’s like nails on a chalkboard and I’ve been desperate to erase it for some time now.

“No… but you said… I’m putting everything on the line here for you. You promised me if I gave you intel on everyone here, their locations, their inner workings at the club, everything, that you would protect me and I could be with Declan. He loves me, I know he does. Otherwise, he wouldn’t work with me to help you.” The pleading is cringy as fuck, an icy bucket of water over our heated moment from seconds ago.

“He was already working for me, you dumb bitch. Now, are you going to—”

Whatever Kincaid was about to say is cut off as Gray rushes with lightning speed to where she’s sitting, hiding in a booth around the corner. I hurry to catch up, just as he snatches the cell phone from her grasp with a snarl.

Molly squeals, face paling as she realizes she’s been caught red-handed. What kind of dumb bitch actually takes a call from the enemy in the fucking main room of the compound?

I take another step toward them, shaking my head in disgust at her as Gray lifts the phone to his ear despite it being on speaker phone.
