I’m not shocked. He’s a completely different kind of leader than Ryker. He’s much more like my father, gaining control by wielding fear instead of trust. That’s why they’re not in the same league. Ryker stands for everything that’s essential to the club as a whole, this man only cares for himself. Even when I was a child, it was the same.

“I’m not going to lie, Scarlett, I’m shocked to see you. Especially alone,” he states, coming to a stop by the bar, and I keep a few feet between us. “How did you get away from them?”

“From who?”

“Don’t play dumb, Scarlett,” he grunts, reaching for an empty glass and a bottle of tequila. He pours himself a shot and downs it, but when I still haven’t responded, he specifies, “How did you get away from the Ruthless Brothers?”

I shrug. “It wasn’t hard. They don’t track my every movement, so I got on my bike and came out here.”

“And how did you know where to look for me?” He braces his elbows on the table, assessing me as I shrug again.

“Does it matter? I didn’t tell them where to find you.”

“How, Scarlett?” He bites, slamming his glass down.

“When I escaped your men at the gates.”

His eyes rake over me from head to toe. “How is it you escaped them exactly?”

We’re getting off track here, and I really don’t have the energy to waste on this. “I feel like we should get to the point of why I’m here now. Where is she?” I ask, and he shrugs, feigning innocence, but the glint in his eyes tells me he knows exactly what I’m talking about.

“Who?”

“The girl you took when you had your little letter dropped off for me earlier,” I reply, pulling the cream paper from my pocket and waving it between us.

His smile spreads as he shakes his head. “You’re telling me all I had to do was kidnap someone you care about? I could have done this years ago and eliminated all of this time between us?”

“I had no one I cared about years ago,” I admit, as he circles his finger around the rim of the glass.

“You could have had me. You could have always had me, Scarlett, but you let your daddy take you from the room that night,” he states, shaking his head in disappointment. He edges closer to me, reaching out to touch my chin with his finger, the move surprisingly gentle. “Imagine what our lives could have been like if you had let me take you away to safety back then.”

“I don’t think you were offering me safety, Kincaid. I was a child, and you were offering me things I shouldn’t have even known existed.” I make sure to keep my tone neutral, but inside, my heart feels like it’s going to burst at the seams.

“Hmm, I would have offered you anything you wanted if I’d had your pussy that night.”

“Are you forgetting how old I was?” I retort, but he’s completely unfazed. For such a beautiful man, his soul is twisted beyond repair.

He shrugs. “You would have been mine.”

“I can be yours now if you let her go.”

Kincaid rocks back on his heels, pursing his lips. “But you’re not a virgin now, are you, little Scarlett?”

“No,” I admit, shaking my head lightly. “I lost that to a one-night stand that’s back to haunt me,” I explain, faking a shiver.

“Back to haunt you? Tell me more.” He drops his hand from my face, tucking them into his pockets as he tilts his head.

“It’s nothing, just some guy from another club. I didn’t realize he was connected to the Ruthless Brothers and now it’s not so safe there for me anymore.” His eyebrows furrow, slowly piecing together who I mean, but I explain further to push the final nail into the coffin because I know it’s going to piss him off. “His name is Declan? His dad is called Graham or something, he—”

“I know who he is. I didn’t realize he took something that was mine,” he murmurs, sweeping his tongue over his bottom lip as he looks at me. “I must admit; after the stories Molly fed me about you, I was sure you were a little tornado of rage, but here you are, as pliant as I remember.”

Huffing, I roll my eyes. “Molly? Please, that girl was jealous of me the second I stepped through the doors at the Ruthless Brothers. I was fresh meat, new pussy, but she kept spinning webs of lies to try to keep the men away from me. If anything, she did me a favor. I was looking for safety and security, not a bunch of STDs,” I retort, lying through my teeth. “I haven’t seen her the past few days though, so things were starting to get a bit rougher for me. Which is why everything with my friend was a surprise, but… I’m hoping you can be my savior.”

Holy shit, I’m really laying it on thick. I’m even doubting myself right now, god fucking knows what the guys are thinking.

“You are something else, Scarlett Reeves.”

“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” I ask, fluttering my lashes as I stuff the letter back in my pocket.
