Grant comes with me. The intensity in his gaze takes my breath away, and I keep my eyes locked on him, watching the raw vulnerability slip through his armor as he calls my name like a prayer. This big, beautiful man succumbs to me like he’s powerless under my touch.

His eyes won’t release me after we’re both sated, not even as he brings his fingers to his mouth and hums his approval. “Fucking delicious.”

Heat creeps into my cheeks, and I glance down at my disheveled appearance—bra undone, shirt pushed up under my chin, pants twisted.

I can’t believe that just happened.

Butgoddamn,was that hot.

“I didn’t hurt you at all, did I?”

He lets out a raspy chuckle. “Not even close.”

“Are you sure? Because you’re injured, and I just jumped on top of you and humped you like a dog in heat.”

Romeo lifts his head from his bed in the corner of the room, his collar jingling from the motion.

Grant pulls me down and kisses my lips. “I loved every second of it.”

So did I.

After I clean up the mess he made on his stomach, I get him settled into a comfortable position in bed and place a heating pad on his back.

“Is there anything else I can do?”

Grant clasps my hand. “Will you lay with me?”

My heart thumps a furious rhythm against my chest. “Of course.”

I snuggle into his king-size bed, surrounded by his familiar scent. His eyelids droop closed, but before he falls asleep, he wraps his arm around me and pulls me close.

“You’re beautiful, Elena.”

I press my lips to his temple and whisper. “So are you.”

I watch him as he drifts to sleep and commit every second of this moment to memory.

Almost as if there’s something deep inside of me that knows this won’t last.

Grant

“Putyour two fingers down like this and keep your index finger and your pinkie up.”

Noah wiggles her thumb. “What do I do with this one?”

“You can keep it up or tuck it down with the others. I like keeping it up.”

Noah thrusts her rock-and-roll hands in the air and shouts, “Rock on, baby!”

I stifle a laugh so they don’t know I’m here. I’ve been watching them in the kitchen for the last ten minutes from behind the wall.

I woke up to an empty bed and panicked when I realized what time it was. My back spasms calmed down, so I was able to hobble downstairs. But when I saw Elena and Noah cooking together in the kitchen, I couldn’t bring myself to alert them of my presence.

Metallica plays from Elena’s phone. She bangs on a set of imaginary drums while Noah pretends to play the guitar in between chopping vegetables and tossing them into a pot on the stove.

“What kind of music does your dad listen to?” Elena asks.

“He doesn’t really listen to anything.”
