I’ve been wondering that too, loosely, when I haven’t been thinking about the whole Emmerson in town thing. Maybe hearing about Ty’s love life will take my mind off any untoward thoughts wandering in that direction.

Ty looks around like coach is standing right behind him.

Fuck. Is he actually for real and something is actually going on with Cindy?

Ty’s a funny and serious guy all rolled into one. When I first met him, I didn’t know which way to take him… but the fucker grows on you as time goes by.

He has an olive complexion from his Mediterranean heritage, with short cropped dark hair. He’s built well, six foot, and all muscle.

“Yeah, are you actually serious?” Ashton quizzes him as we have a round of drinks and some tapas while we’re waiting for our main courses. I’m a little bit of a stickler for my own rules. Even though I’ve broken a lot of the ones I set for myself, I never drink before a game.

“Yes, I’m serious,” he tells us, leaning forward. “I saw her having dinner one night a couple of weeks back with her friend… so I sidled up to her table and we started chatting.”

“Chatting?” I choke back my soda with a scoff. “Since when do you chat?”

He’s usually more the quiet, broody type. Around us guys, anyway.

“Since her,” he says with an affirmative nod.

“And?” JJ presses. “You had dinner with her?…”

“Yeah, they invited me to sit down with them. I thought she was just being nice at first, with her Dad being coach of our team and all, but a couple of drinks in and we exchanged numbers…”

We all stare at him in disbelief.

“So, you’re like sexting her now?” Jay always has to poke the bear.

Ty gives him a look. “Texting, fucker.”

Ashton and I chuckle.

Jay holds up his hands. “Texting, sexting… whatever. What’s the vibe?”

“She’s fucking gorgeous… I mean, have you seen her?” He runs his hands through his hair. “What the hell am I gonna do?”

“You fallin’ for her?” I ask, raising my eyebrow. I’m not certain this would be the smartest thing he could do at the height of his career and with us going straight for the Stanley Cup.

He sighs again… “Fuck… I think I am.”

Ashton sits back in his chair, amused. “Of all the women in the world, you had to go and pick the coach’s daughter?”

“How the fuck is that my fault?” he grumbles.

Jay shakes his head. “You better cut that shit out, bro, if you’re serious, at least until the season is out. If Coach finds out…”

“He’s not going to find out… not yet anyway.”

“You think it could go somewhere?” I ask him, a little surprised by his admission.

“We went out for coffee once after the dinner thing. I mean… nothing is set in stone. But yeah, I think it could go somewhere.”

We all laugh.

“One coffee!” I chortle.

“Maybe that’s all it took,” Jay muses.

Ty shoots him a look, and Jay shrugs his shoulders.
