If I do get to see him, he might ask me why I didn’t say I was in town.

Taylor, hey it’s me, Emmerson. I’m in town visiting my parents.Cindy has convinced me to come and see a game while I’m here.I hope you’re cool with that. Em

I hit send before I can back out of it.

I continue getting ready and decide to curl the ends of my hair. I play up my eyes a little bit, adding some green eyeliner and black mascara.

“Oooh, don’t you look awesome.” Maddie is all smiles when she comes out of the bathroom wearing her favorite long-sleeve denim dress with cowboy boots and a thick puffy jacket for when she gets into the stadium. Cindy has assured us that we will all have a goodie bag with a Hawks hat and scarf if we want to wear them.

“You’re cute as a button,” I tell her. She’d look cute in any darn thing she wore. She’s also talking about trying to bag a team jersey from somewhere to put over her dress when she gets there.

It’s then I hear a ping from my phone. I tear myself away quickly while Maddison finishes getting ready. We’re borrowing my mom’s car again and about to head out to meet up with Cindy and Susie.

My heart literally beats out of my chest when I glance down and see part of the message flash up on my screen… It’s a reply from Taylor.

I lean back on my bedroom door and take a deep breath… It’s too late to back out from the game now, no matter what he says.

I bite my lip and open the message….

CHAPTER6

Taylor

I glance at the screen and swallow hard when I see Emmerson’s name flash. I’ve just finished my twenty-two practice laps… Ironic, really.

I sit on the bench just outside the rink, staring at it. I must read it fifty times before I respond.Should I respond right away?

I don’t know the protocol with these things, especially with Emmerson.

I slide my phone back into my back pocket. I need to think.

I also need to go home and change into my suit for the game and get back here in another hour.

I guess I have been practicing so long at not having any reaction to anything Emmerson-related it’s kind of like giving myself permission to go there for a moment, even if I don’t want to. I have everything carefully managed in my head, and inside my heart… so I don’t even know why I feel nervous.

There’s no harm though in saying hi back to her. I can keep my guard up, it won’t be a problem…

So when I’m in my car, sitting in the underground parking garage for my penthouse suite, I decide it can’t hurt to send a text back to her. She seemed friendly enough in the message.

Hey Emmerson, good to hear from you. It’s been a long time since you’ve beenin the stands. I hope you enjoy the game. TJ

I stare at my own message before I press send.

Do I sound like an asshole?

Does it sound like I don’t want to see her?

Now she’s sent me a message, I do want to fucking see her.

I always sign off as TJ, so that’s nothing new, but what she makes of the rest is entirely up to her.

I stand under the rain shower longer than I probably needed to.

Then I tug one out before the game, because fuck me, I need to let out some frustration and a good orgasm always puts me in a good mood.

My palm has been my friend more often than not of late. I’m more focused than ever right now because the Stanley Cup is all I can fucking focus on.

I want to take my team all the way and then prep for the new season. I don’t want anything getting in the way, or my mind focusing on too many outside distractions.
