“So we’re in town for the next week…” Maddison is saying next to me. “Well, Em is staying a couple of weeks longer than me, right, Em?”

I glance at her, and she smiles. I would give anything to know what she’s thinking right now. But it’s noisy in here, the guys are still pumped, and it’s probably only going to get rowdier. Jay, of course, is sweet-talking every chick in the room, including both Maddison and Susie at the same time. He even slings his arm around Marcy at one point, but she’s used to him.

“It really was a great game tonight,” Emmerson says to me when they decide to call it a night, despite the fact Maddison seems eager to come to the after party. I notice Cindy has been talking with Tyler most of the time they’ve been here, and I don’t think I’m the only one starting to notice. They manage to drag her out with them as I walk behind, with Jay seeing them back out to the main foyer. It’s a large rabbit hole back here so it would be easy enough to get lost.

“We gonna talk while you’re in town?” I ask Emmerson, just before they step back out into the foyer. I know I could text her,but something makes me want to know right now.

She glances up at me and blinks, surprised, I think, by me asking her.

I don’t know what kind of guy she assumes I am these days. I guess she’s trying to gauge it, as it’s been so long since we’ve hung out or even had a decent conversation.

“That would be good,” she says with a nod. “I’ll message you, yeah?”

“Sounds good.”

“Nice to meet you all,” Jay croons next to me, and I laugh, shaking my head.

The girls all wave their goodbyes, and I stand there watching them walk away for a moment. It’s fucking surreal, that’s all I can say.

“So, that’s the famous Emmerson.” Jay sighs as he watches them head across the main foyer of the arena.

“That’s the one,” I reply.

“She’s hot… her friends too.”

I shove him as I turn back toward the players’ lounge. “Don’t go there, bud.”

“Why the fuck not?”

I roll my eyes. Nothing is obvious to him; sometimes he needs to be told when he’s crossing the line.

“It’s Emmerson, my childhood girlfriend, for one. Does that need an explanation?”

“Well, her friend Maddison seemed pretty cool, that Susie one is quiet… but hey, I’m all for opening up the quiet ones and seeing what’s inside.”

“Maddison was wearing Ashton’s jersey,” I remind him with a snicker.

“She knows fuck all about the game.”

“Still.” I shrug. “And Susie, off limits, bud… especially to you. She’s too fucking nice.”

He laughs and slaps me on the back. “Whatever you say, bro.”

The after party goes by in a blur, it’s mainly keeping up with appearances. I’m tired from the training this week and pushing myself so hard in tonight’s game. All I can think about is curling up and going to sleep.

I get home after midnight, leaving the guys to party on until God knows when.

I have a few missed calls from my mom. I know she was at the game, but I didn’t get to see her tonight. I’ll call her in the morning, as it’s way too late by the time I flop into bed.

My place is as plush as it gets. The best thing I ever bought, other than my Porsche and the Penthouse itself, was my king-sized bed. I lie in the middle of it now thinking about tonight.

Of course, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Emmerson.

It’s a little hard not to. Seeing her again stirs things up just like how I thought it would, but I know I can’t hide from it forever. I meant what I said, there are things to say. First, though, I have to take care of business.

As tired as I am, my cock won’t go down. He’s been begging for it the minute Emmerson’s name came into the equation. It’s like he fucking knows without even seeing her, it’s always been like this. I always loved how smart and kind she was… but I loved her body too and the way we fit.
